You can buy a supplement (I think it's called Quitt) and put it in their feed, it supposedly stops them chewing wood. Or getting cribbing collars for all of them

Go to the grocery store and buy the most inexpensive liquid dish soap. Take a sponge and your dish soap and cover all of the wood areas that they chew on. If you do this a few times they will lose interest because they won't like the taste.

Paprika also works really good. you can just sprinkle a little over the spots where she likes to chew and they won't touch it. Good Luck.

Or you could try the cribbing harness or cribbing supplement. :)

A cribbing collar won't due jack because this horse has pica. Pica refers to the eating of materials other than normal food which in this case is wood (lignophagia). It can be caused by a variety of things including a lack of fiber (not enough roughage), a salt, potassium, or phosphorous deficiency, or chronic stomach pain (such as ulcers). Even if the problem is found and treated the behavior often becomes habitual. A vet should do blood work, check for ulcers, and evaluate your horses diet to determine the cause. Pica can be very dangerous especially lignophagia. Once you determine why your horse developed this condition you can work to treat him as necessary, in the mean time I would paint all of your fencing with creosote to discourage chewing.

i agree with silver, i would have a vet look at your horse, but i would also get some like peper spray and spray the fences to help stop the wood eating

If your vet says your horse is fine, it may be a nervous or habitual action. In that case they sell Supplements with ingrediants to calm and subdue (ie rosemary) and to stop chewing (i dont know what kind of ingrediant would do that). Im sure your vet can give you a better idea.

one of my horses used to chew wood like crazy. if we turned him out in the areana he would just sit there and chew on the jumps! my mom put him on quit chew or stop chew, whatever it's called, and it worked great. he doesent chew anymore YAY

all my horses did that to 1 tree a long time ago, then when we moved them back to the back pasture, they never did, and the next time they moved back to my front pasture they didn't, every once in a while they chew that same tree, but not all the time, maybe they do it because they are hungry, my mom is a horse vet and I've heard her tell ppl that after they say their horses are eating trees or she said they might just be bored.... next time they do that, give them some hay and see if they quit, maybe try getting a jolly ball 4 them....

my horses did that 4 a little while too! IT IS NOT CRIBBING, I know what cribbing is, when we explain it on here, it might SOUND like cribbing but my horses did the EXACT same thing (but they stopped on their own 4 some reason).
