Hello,
My horse has recently starting shaking her head while out of the stall making her very difficult to ride. My vet thinks she is light sensitive? I have not heard of this before. I have heard of allergies to sunlight but not this. She has never done this before and previously lived outside 24/7 but she now lives in stall with turn out everyday. Anyone else heard of light sensitivity or has/had a horse with head shaking issues? Her teeth have already been checked out and they are fine.
Thanks for any input.

Could be flies, back pain, saddle fit, girth pinching...did your vet examine her, or did she say this over the phone?

My vet has examined her a couple times no problems were found. We dont have any flies yet, and her saddle is great.

she might just be ansy, even though she has turn out, she might be used to her old lifestyle, but i would say that if u put her out in the sunny pasture during the day and there is no problem, until u decide to ride her, it could be something else, or just an attitude.

I talked to a massage therapist's who thought her poll might be out of sync. So I am getting her adjusted at the beginning of next week. Thank you for your input. I will update after her massage visit.

Have you had her teeth checked, i know its a long shot but its worth a check if she's shaking her head whilst been ridden, she may had chipped her tooth or something.

Well, I had her adjusted and she was slightly out of whack. But, she is still shaking and trembling her lips while out in the sun. Any suggestions??? Her teeth were done not that long ago.
It could also be that she has gotten used to being inside. It's like some people would rather be inside than out my brother is that way.So maybe she has gotten cozy in her stall.just a thought. ;)

Well, thanks for the input. You could be right about her deciding inside is better than outside. The down side to that would be what do we do at the horseshow if she hates being outside which is the majority of shows in our area.

Do you stables your horse near a rape seed field (yellow field)... some horses are allergic to it... if you want to put it that way! It could be any irritation in her nose but you can buy muzzle/nose guards which are a net like material... don't know if this will help! :p

Well, we do have quite a bit of dandelions but that is it beside alittle Thistle. However, her turnout does not have anything but bark inside of it. Thanks for the help.

It might be her hoof or leg joints.Whenever she walks something could be hurting on her leg.Just another thought.
