Sorry i talk a lot, I need suggestions on how to stop my horse rubbing his mane.
Not the naughty one who wont be bathed, the one who's meant to be the example. Archie
Hes got a gorgeous mane and i need him to keep it for summer cos im showing him mountain and moorland. Its just right at the moment but as soon as summer gets in ful swing i know ill find it hanging off the fence posts! He's free from lice but has sweet itch and is generally itchy. Does anyone know of any proven remedies that will save my welsh's mane!
Even home made will do! His tail is just as bad at the top. He looked so handsome now he looks like he's been dragged through a bush backwards lol
Please help me!

If the fly sprays dont work... or any other random things you can get that are usually a lil costly... use onions...
Cut the onion in half and rub it up and down their neck... make sure you really rub it in... they will reak of onions but it works...
Or try the marmite sandwiches like Ive said on the other post...
Otherwise you could just get a neck cover...

When you get down to the roots of his mane is it flakey at all it? He may be rubbing due to dry itchy skin. If this could be the reason try baby oil at the roots and massage it in, it should help rehydrate the skin if it is dry and hey it works great to get out knots in the hair. Okay just my thoughts Dorothy

The skin on his neck doesnt seem dry or flaky. I checked to see if he had lice or anything and he's all clear, he has a really thivk mane though and im not sure if that could be making him a bit sweaty. I had a neck cover but he rubbed a hole right thru it.
Ill try the onions one.
Ive thought about sweet itch lotions but then i thought he might have had an allergic reaction to it. Its the same on the top of his dock but i havent used any products on him. Im just hoping there are some natural ways cos he might have really sensitive skin.
Thankyou!!

The onions will work on the dock of your horses tail too... sounds very much like sweet itch!

Try using a product called Shapley's MTG. It's great for rubbing, rain rot, and GROWTH!!! Although, it's really greasy, it really works. Also you don't have to wash it out. All you do is put it on and massage it is and you're done. Just leave it until the next time you put it on, and then I would rinse/wash out the previous and apply the new. Good Luck!
