I recentley rescued a shetland cross piebald mare, she is 11.2hh and 8 yrs old
I just got the weight back on her and am looking to bring her back into work, shes been riden in a riding school previoisly and driven before but i cant ride her. Im too tall and heavy so im asking my aunt.
I have got ehr a bridle but am confused as to what sort of saddle to get her. Someone suggested one of the childrens cub saddles but id much prefer leather. Her back is like a tabletop but she isnt over weight.
She seems to have no withers! Im not sure what sort of saddle to get weather synthetic, leather of alittle cub saddle, i heard treeless ones were good for rather round horses too. Any suggestions?
Thankyou!

My little sister's horse is a Appy. with the same problem. A completely flat back and NO withers. She's been desperately trying to scramble and find a saddle to fit him before show season, but they're kind of expensive. She's found several treeless saddles that are pretty amazing. I think Thorougood saddles that are made in extra-wide, but i think those are synthetic.

Not sure if it helps, good luck and let me know if you find a good saddle.

Ive heard about reeless ones but they're pretty pricey. Do u think a interchangable gullet system wud do? Maybe change the gullet for a wider one in a synthetic pony saddle?

you might want to look into padding options. maybe a no slip saddle pad along with wither pads would help?

You could start off trying to find a nice bareback pad with stirrups. Those look really comfortable, and if they have stirrups they would be similar to a saddle for security. Also, bareback pads don't have a tree so it could fit her easily.

Pessoa's are good too, if you can find a used one or something.

Synthetics are okay but I heard they can be annoying - im not sure I've never had one.

PLEASE DO NOT GET A BAREBACK PAD WITH STIRRUPS, THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND MISLEADING. The stirrups do not support you like a real saddle with stirrups, I know people who have ended up on the ground under their horse because of those stirrups.

Also, you need to see what saddle fits her....full QH bars or semi QH bars, or regular QH bars...something should. Just try some. If not, get help from someone, a trainer or a vet.
