I heard that hackamars really work now! Because, 3 grand prix riders at The Oaks, had hackamars in the grand prix. I was like, that's so rad! But, I was just wondering if you guys know any people that are in hunter/jumpers that use hackamars<<excuse my spelling I'm not sure how to spell hackamar>> :D

I know quite a bit of people that use hackamores in the jumper ring. it really depends on what the horse needs.

I just tried a hackamore on my mare today......the jury is still out. I only hacked her in it, I will jump her tomorrow and see how she does.

my horse was really funny the first time i jumped her in it...she realized it wasn't a bit and tried to run. she hit the hackamore and never did it again...she's nice and slow with it now. (mine has a chain underneath)

I jumped her in it and she was awesome. I think she loved it!! Hopefully the love for it lasts for more than a week, that is about as long as I have gotten her to stay happy with a new bit for. Wish me luck. ;)

I can't remember off the top of my head, but there was something in the news a few weeks ago about a grand prix where one of the guys competed in a bosal....which is basically just a halter and a lead rope, except a little more complex. I thought that was pretty cool.

We have a couple of horses that go in hackamores and do well, couple the should go in hackamores, but can't.

you might be surprised, my mare is very "forward", lots of engine, and she was so happy not to have a bit in her mouth she was very good

Some horses just respond better to poll pressure...I've found that a lot of horses that have been bitted up to the extreme are often slowed down by hackamores because they've never had anything put that kind of pressure in those kinds of places.

I wouldn't use them for the hunters myself, but I've seen a couple jumpers that seem to go well in them. Once I tried one on my pony for fun, he did okay, but he was a little nervous about it. He likes the roller or Happy Mouth snaffles. They calm him down.

I do flatwork with my horse in a hackamore and I jump with a mikmar short shank since he's so strong. I find he responds well to both of them.

i had to use a hackamor on my mare when she cut her mouth before a big comp and so did some training and stuff in it to keep her in work. she ended up going so well that i competed her in it and she had never jumped so well in her life - her technique improved so much coz she must prefer not havin anything a lot of pressure in her mouth. im gonna keep it on her from now on for jumpin. i do find tho that i don't hav a lot of steerin with a hackamor so my coach made up a double bridle for me that has a small bridoon bit for steering and the hackamore for the brakes. it works so well

Pretty cure you can, it puts pressure on the nose, no? The horse would eventually learn to bring his shoulders up, tuck his nose in and engage his hindquarters to avoid being met with the pressure.

Rodrigo Pessoa rode at the 2000 Olympics in a hackamore.

What do we think of eventing in a hackamore? I don't think its allowed in dressage, but for cross country and stadium? I don't think it should be used in hunters... I don't know, it just kinda messes with the traditionalism I think. They only use snaffles anyway, right? -isn't a hunter rider, doesn't know the rules-

You aren't allowed to show in a hackamore in hunters or equitation... I believe.. Definatly not hunters, but I don't think equitation either. And about the reply before, So what if it is Grand Prix, your heels should still be down! Its a fundamental basic! It screws with your balance, therefore screwing with your horses balance!

Sorry... I just finished working at a camp as a "trainer" and I would never let any of my kids ride with their heels like that!

I beleive that it is quite common to see them in the jumpers, not always in the big jumpers like level 5 and up but in the lower level jumpers they are seen a lot. :D

I think everybody should be able to ride their horses in a hackamore, it's a basic communication thing...
Bits are useful at times but it's also good to be able to control your horse without one.

Bosals aren't just a halter and lead rope.Your right they are more complex :-)
bosals are actually set just right so the horse tucks its head in so there is no pressure on the nose.I used to know how to get to this point in training but I forgot (haven't done it before)(I'll let you know if I have)
