If a horse boarded in 24/7 open pasture and a horse is running after another horse, and that other horse runs into a fence. Who is responsible for the vet bill on the horse that ran into the fence????

Someone said it was the chaser's owners responsiblity. But, others say that it is the runners owner because you sign papers about responsible for your own risk.

Any insight would be helpful. Let me know. thanks

I would think it would be the chaser's onwer because its the one who chased the horse into it, the horse just wouldnt have run to the fence so its probaly the chaser's owner!

Horses will be horses. I wouldn't punish the owner for their horse's mistake. Technically, it is the owner of the injured horse who is responsible for the vet bill, as the other owner had nothing to do with it.

I've seen incidents like that in several barns. It's the owner of the injured horses's responsibilty to pay the vet bill. Unless of course, the horse that was injured wasn't supposed to be pastured with any other horses. Then the barn owner/manager is at fault. I've seen that happen before too.

The vet bill is the owners responsibility. The owner of the horse that has the injury. If they are boarding their horse in a pasture there is the chance that their horse will incurr an injury. It is just part of owning a horse, they need to see the vet occasionaly.

agreeing with every one else, it's the owner of the injured horse that pays the bill. Even if the injured horse is directly kicked or bitten by another horse, the other owner is still not liable.
