hi everyone i got my 1st horse 2 weeks ago and am loving having him! only thing is, today i went to catch him to bring him in and he had a braid in his mane. obviously some kids have been in the field with him last night and messed with him. he was very moody today too, putting his ears back and trotting away while i was trying to catch him which he has never done before, so i dont know if they have frightened him in some way? other than camping in the field overnight i have no idea what to do!
any advice please xx

do you have trees near your fild?
if you do hide in them and when they do it get a gd look take a pic and go to local authoritys.
if their in there with your horse they could seriously hurt him and themselfes.
i would be more worried about the horses then the brats who are messing him around

oh believe me i am more worried about my horse than the brats that are messing with him, i have put him in the stable tonight just to keep him safe. its probably just some horse mad little girl who has been doing his hair but i worry incase it was a gang of them and they were chasing him or worse. i guess i will have to hide in the trees and get a picture!
thanks xx

What I do if my horse runs away from you in the pasture you take them in the roung pen and lounge them. After that you drop the whip and turn your back to them. If the horse comes up to you that means thet he/she trust you and shouldn't be afraid. That is what I did when I got my second horse (Bargain) and the first thing I did was join up with her and she will follow me anywhere. :)

You should definally report it to the police. A couple weeks ago some people broke in to the field where my horse is kept and my friends horses are at and they cut almost all the tails off about 4 inches than some of the manes and forelocks. That is a crime and a misdemeanor. so you should watch out. especially it it is upsetting your horse.
Im gonna try to be a little bit more practical than hiding in bushes and ambushing small children. :)
Put signs on the barn that say something along the lines of "This barn is patrolled by cameras" or "Secured Barn". I believe they sell them at local farm stores and Tractor Service Center. They're about $7 a peice. Also, put them along the fence line. You don't neccisarrily need cameras, but having signs can certainly help deter young children from messing with your horse. Keep him inside at night too. My horse stays inside at night, and i've never had any trouble with anyone messing with him. Two little girls that ride there will try to mess with him, but they learned their lesson pretty quick when he reared up and almost kicked one of them.
As terrible as it sounds, if you leave your horse outside at night, he'll probably hurt someone. It won't, obviously, be your fault, but you might have a mess on your hands. Let us know how it works out.

did you find anything else wrong with him because if they tried to ride him with no tack it could scare him when you try and mount.
i heard of a girl and a goup of girls came into her horses fild and tied a rope round the horses nose and whist one draged the horse along another sat on its back kiking at it and i would never want ahorse too go through rthat sort of torture even if i dont know the horse!

i actually keep bobbi in a livery yard so its not my property i just pay rent for field and stable, plus i have only been there for two weeks today and as much as i want to, i dont think its my place to be hanging up signs and cameras. i am very tempted though! i have just turned him out tonight for the 1st time since he came in with the braids in his mane and i am hoping so much he will be safe tonight. i would die if anyone cut his mane or tail, he is a gypsy cob and most of his beauty is his long flowing hair and feathers. anyway i spoke to the guy tonight who owns the place and told him my concerns, he was worried too and said he will deal with it so hopefully it wont happen again. thankyou all so much and if any of you want to mail me please do. xx

If it happens again,I vote hide out like others have said but instead of taking pictures, see what the kids are actually doing with your horse. If they are just petting it and playing with its hair there is probably no harm in it. They could possibly just be horsey mad little girls that don't have one of their own and are desperate to be arround them. I was like that, kinda. If you regonize these kids, you may even possibly approach them and invite them to come help you with your horse sometime in the daylight but to please "let him sleep" at night. Who knows, you might become their new hero :D
If they are doing something mean or hurtful, ie throwing rocks, trying to ride him, etc. I vote for the old scare the crap outta them method!! Compleate with flash lights, yelling, threatning to tell parents or cops, etc.
