Anyone using smart packs at their stable? How has it worked out cost-wise vs. buying individual supplements? We feed all supplements at lunch with their pellets. Was it difficult to get your person that does the feeding to get the correct pack to the correct horse?
Supplements currently given:
Strongid C
Ortho-chon 2- Joint, pain management
Platinum Performance
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

For me it's not a cost issue as much as it is the security of knowing my horse is actually getting his supplements, getting the right ones, and in the correct amount. That piece of mind is priceless.
Regal's are just in a little box outside of his stall, when they feed they rip one pack open and dump it on top. Sooo simple.

We did smartpaks for a while with two of our horses and it worked out great, they send the cool drawers for the paks to be in and they all have the horses name on them so they are pretty straight forward...cost wise I think it ended up being pretty similar, maybe a bit more...but it was so nice to not have to worry as much about running out of supplements b/c at the end of each month a box of new ones would always appear on time...Also if you are doing a whole barn where everyone gets the same meds it would be really easy because they would all be the same...on the other hand I don't think they would be as easy to cart around in the wheelbarrow with the other grains while buckets of supplements are...our barn guy was also really good about doing it b/c he didn't speak any english but it was easier b/c they were in the seperate drawers and he could tell them apart for each horse.

a few horses at the barn where i trean have them, but i like knowing that my horse is getting supplements, so i make baggies, and he gets one twice a day. The barn where I keep Joey now only has like 5 horses (over 35) so it is simple for them to do either baggies or individual scoops
