swelling!!!

my mare hit her head on the trailer on sunday and broke her lead rope now her eye is extreamly swollen!does any one have any idea on how to make sure ther isn't any serious damage or how to make it more comfortable for her? :confused:

Call your vet to make sure she didn't do any underlying damage. If there is a wound, put some kind of wound cream on it. Maybe give her some banamine for the swelling.

I would either put something cold like an ice pack or a pultice on it to reduce the swelling. I'm not sure about using chemicals that close to the eyes, nose and mouth though so just something cool would prolly be best. When the swelling goes down you can see how bad it really is and if the vet is nessessary.

If it were me, i would call the vet any way because of the risk of head trauma but keeping something cool on it in the mean time wont hurt.

thanks for the advice it just so happens i had set a vet apointment for this weekend months ago for a floating so i can get her eye checked out . her swelling is almost gone today i did put cream on the 2 tiny cuts near her ear and i was worried about a cuncusion so i have been monitering her every day and walking her around to make sure she's not of balents . i know i wrote this today but i was still curius on if ther was anything else i should do sinse she was vary uncomfortable and i was afraid cemicles would hurt her eye so thanks yu guys have confermed a lot for me. :) :)
