my horse ruby is a great western bareback trail or anything horse but as i went to a trail with logs in it i thought " mabe i could jumpo he ... so i trotted her up to a half foot high log and she JUMPED IT!!! anthen i saw a foot one and she jumped that one too!! and i was riding with some girls that i met ( really nice and one of them jumped) and after i jumped the foot high log she said " WOWO is your horses a jumper cus she jumped that log like my jumper horse dose!" naturally i said no but then they said that i sould train ruby to be a jumper!

but now to the real qustion ... when should i train my horse to jump? and would it hurt he joints?

... oh and i don't know how to jump so i would have to take lessons too ... and i already had an offer from this jumpertrainer at my arena and she said " give me one chance to train that horse to be a jumper cus she would do great!!!" but that was after i was walking over some logs in the arena and ruby was paying atention to her feet like one wrong step *boom * dead! and now i have money and i am actually wanting to ... but i wanted to get some feedbaack from some experienced jumpers before i do it.

oh and icase you were wondering ... i would show my horse too ... cus showing is one of my dreams!

Get a trainer if you intend on doing this correctly, it's probably your best bet.

As for your horse, how old is she? If she's relatively young, her joints shouldn't have a problem, and even if she's older but in great shape, she should be okay.

Let us know how you do.

4? My Wes is four, and will be going into jumping training soon I hope, you have nothing to worry about, your horse is young and should be able to deal with the pressure of jumping just fine. :]

Have fun with Ruby! Get a good trainer, and be safe!

I don't know if I'm being weird, here...but maybe wear a body-protector the first couple of times until Ruby is comfortable with it. I'm not saying that anything bad will happen, but just to be safe!

I've read that green jumpers often jump BIG because they are using sheer power just to get over the jump, so be ready!

I've never jumped before, but I would love to, I just read a lot on the topic!

Be safe and have fun!

4 is a great age to start jumping. Old enough to be steady and solid but young enough to be able to handle the phyiscal aspects. But you should get a trainer. One who comes with high recomendations. Just because somone calls themselves a horse trainer dosn't nessiarly mean they have any business teaching others. (speaking from expierence here)

But have fun and keep us informed!! :D

Greenies jump big, I remember taking one mare over a little 8" cross rail and she jumped it like a 3' oxer (a cross rail is basically an "X" and an oxer is a jump with a little bit of a spread inbetween the beginning and ending of the jump....Still don't get it; Google images of them)

Greenies are fine, butyou're gonna want to get Ruby in training with a prefessional and get yourself in training too.

If you've never jumped before, you're going to want to take lessons from a crediable Hunter/Jumper trainer because they're going to have the Lesson horses that are trained for jumpoing and will be best able to help youy learn. Learning on a Greenie is perfectly fine if you have the right trainer, but you will learn much faster if you are being taught on a horse that already knows the routine.

Let me know how you two do!!!! And if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I know you guys highly suggest getting a credible trainer for RubyRider and I fully agree, but you don't need to keep saying it, she already wrote that she was going to get one. it's in no way meant to offend any of you and I'm sorry if I have, but I like reading what people have to say and it gets kind of repetitive and old if EVERYONE says to get a trainer. she did say she was going to get one so lets see how she does, I'm interested in how she is doing too...
PS. I realized I did sound snotty, I'm usually not, but Im sure you know how it is when everyone says the same thing over and over and over... ya know?

well.
i would definatley get a trainer.
its worth the money.
and if ur going to show,
u will be happy you have the trainer.

how oldd and wat breed is your horse?
did u buy her when she was a baby?
or was she already trained?
because she could have had some jumping experience already.
thats depending on how old she was when you got her.

but you should deffinatley try it!
its a lot of fun.

u might want to try jumping on someones school horse.
or a friends horse thats a jumper.
then you could get the feel of it before you try to train your horse.
