Sine somebody started something about what english judges are looking for... What do you think western pleasure and halter judges are looking for this show season of 07'. :)

Shine. I have this shiny slinky and I won a lot that night. They also want you to match. Black shirt, black boots, black belt, big buckle, black or jean pants. If you are doing black. But like say blue and black. Blue Shirt, Black jeans, Black boots, Black belt, Big buckle with blue, and your horse a black saddle and blue blanket. Then black bridle. Get it? :D

The main thing they look at, and will always look at, is how good you and your horse are. It doesn't matter how well you follow the trends if you and your horse can't ride.

In WP what they look for is a quiet pleasurable mount and a rider enjoying him/herself. If the horse moves easily and freely without getting upset at the riders cue. If you hadn't heard about it there has been a couple of changes in the rule books within the last couple years. 1) the horses ears can be no lower than the withers (peanut rolling) and 2) the hoof beats have to be cadenced, no 4 beating. Also, watch out for the judges with connections. With our local shows it is VERY uncommon to see a horse that is not QH place higher than 3rd. It's almost discouraging to even want to go. Theres actually a show going on right now that I could have gone to, but I'm starting not to like the politics

Allie That is BOGUS!! I have a friend that rides and Arabian and she cleans up in every thing she goes to and she goes to our shows (Brenda Mahler). Also at the show yesterday a couple girls rode Bashkir Curlies and did wonderfully. What they are doing on the circuit shows are wearing the brightest most expensive shirts you can find and the saddles with the most silver and the sleekest horses that carry their heads the lowest and can move the slowest win. No matter what the rules say any more. Some judges are good and will go by the rule book and place the peanut rollers last but old habits die hard. The cheapest way to go would probably be hunter under saddle because the outfits are the cheapest.

Down here in Jax, I've noticed the peanut pushers have not been placing, and I've been paying close attention since last October.
Bright colors always catch the judge's eye, DixieGirl! But then again, so does Dixie! She's got the headset they're looking for, the jog, and when you move to W/T/C, she's got the lope that'll steal the blue! Just remember to smile because that's what you do when you're having a blast! :D

I'm not sure, our judges down here are kind of weird when it comes to halter....they judge it fairly one show, and the next it's all about color...

The horses who hold their heads so low, their ears go below their poll, making their heads hang un-naturally low. Some ppl think it looks "good" but it just means they tired their horse out (usually tying their heads up before the show, not always though). Its what happens when the ppl who don't want to take the time to train the horse and work on their headset do to try to make their horse look good, when really, it doesn't...
I think I explained that right...
Instead of their head being level, it goes down at an angle, which is "frowned upon" most of the time...

Peanut rolling or pushing is not always from tiring out a horse it can come naturally or can be trained. I just broke my two year old who I never had to tie down his head I had to yank it up he just loves to have his head low.

Yes, that's why I put "not always though" because I know not everyone does that. It's just a technique used sometimes, which is what I put. Wasn't trying to offend anyone.
Casper2002, that goes for you too, I didn't say everyone does it.
