Depends on the horse really. I like long names and short names, it just depends. I've always had issues with names, which is why I turned to the lovely canterculture for Wes's show name (East Meets Wes) but for regular barn names, I love:
Apollo
Sky High
Remy
Toby
Shadow
Eclipse
Mikey (I knew a TB with this name, and I loved him.)
Cricket
Moose
Elliott
Cambridge
Haverhill (don't ask about that one. XD)
As you can see my list is long, and it took me forever to decide when I got my horse (I let my mommy and CC help too :]) but there are just SO many good names.

It's just one name, but I am really fond of the name Shenanigans for the horse who is a bit stubborn and loves to be sneaky. :)

Skip A Night Star sounds really cool. i think anyways.

Lol! When I was in elementary and jr high I used to read those things by the the dozen...my parents spent a fortune at books a million for me! I quit in the early forties, high school took too much of my time...and also I always preferred the Ashleigh, Samantha and Cindy stories to the Christina and Melanie...but thats me. lol. Loved those horse names, though.hehe

Show names sometimes make it easier to identify horses and their pedigree, especially if you ride horses that are at the top of their breed (Casper, i think you qualify ;) ) But every horse needs a barn name. I like barney for a gelding or molly for a mare. :p

When I name my horses,
I name them off of their personality, and what they make me think of.
Usually just what comes to mind.
:)
My horse's name is Elvis.
He is a western horse, but is exellent at side-passing and the piaffe (I always spell it p-off)...

i can't say i'm fond of cliched names and overused names and cutesy common names. i like random names. at the A shows there are so many horses with lame names like strawberry wine, prince charming, overdrawn account, etc.
for quarter horses it's okay to have those funny names, but in the h/j world i personally think humorous, random or somewhat sophisticated names sound the best. some horses at my barn are just humor me, matchmaker, curiosity shop, and my horse is wedding party. yea they're not that original, but my horse already had that name. haha. he is wedding party in the westphalian registry in germany, so wedding party he will be known as throughout the u.s. oh well. not THE wedding party. just wedding party. so random. i know.
but yea. i want to name my next horse No More Cliches. haha.
as for barn names, i like names that fit the horse but are also original. like how many horses in the world are called king? not so original. my old horse's name was silky - how terrible is that? but oh well. i didn't choose it. i don't believe in changing a horse's barn name. my horse's name is tristan only because in germany he didn't have a barn name. and i wasn't going to constantly call him wedding party. i like names from mythology, like tristan, or original names and ones you don't hear everyday. my friend's old horse was named travolta, which was really cute, i thought. another's was called deniro. and there was one called stallone. see a theme? haha. it was cute. i'm not such a fan of actual human names for horses, but sometimes they work if they're on the right horse. i know a horse named eddie and it works. and a horse named john.
but yea. names are fun =D

though I don't like the Impressive bloodline all that well, I know soooo many people who own them (N/N of course) and I think if ever I was able to name one it would be Impress My Stilettos, or CASPER has a filly named Happy to Impress You, so cute... I absolutely love the Zippo bloodline, they are just so talented (though I hear Zips Chocolate Chip babies have their little quirks along the line of HOT!!!) they are GORGEOUS too... I would name a Zippo baby "Zip to the Top" or "Zip'n Win"... That's just me though, I know I'll never be lucky enough to have a Zippo baby... I also like T'N'T bloodline they are phenomenal show horses too
