And in a price range or under $5,000

Well from personal experiance Akel-Tekes (sp?) are really cool and talented horses, but very pricey. They run about $5K when they hit the ground. They aren't known much here in the USA but they're originally from Russia. I worked with the breed for about a year, and that's one horse with a lot of brains and talent (sometimes a little to much). Other than that, it really depends on the type of jumping you want to do and what level you want to take it to. Good luck on your search!

I like warmbloods....but they are pretty expensive....tbs are always good and plenty of them are cheaper than everything else....my Paint mare is an EXCELLENT hunter/jumper but she is built differently than a lot of other paints....

Hmmm, I think Warmbloods are great jumpers, but Thoroughbreds are also good. Many Quarter Horses can jump well, but most rush or don't have the right conformation. Holsteiners are good. Hanos are good. Hackneys are good too, but those last three are quite rare to find and pricey. Trakes are pricey, but great. That's what I can think of, hope it helps.

i would say any warmblood because in germany and europe they are bred to jump. thoroughbreds can also be good, and SOME quarter horses are alright for hunters. but then, wbs are always expensive, like over $30 or $40k.
for under $5k i would say any kind that looks nice over fences and does its job well.

I think it would be TB's, QH, Warmbloods, & Hanorovains (sp).

lol, you will see maybe 3 in the entire country doing hunters....
Warmbloods, thoroughbreds, appendix quarter horses, the occassional paint, welsh crosses.

For under $5k I would reccomended a crossbreed. Honestly, they sell for less and can come out on top. A pony/TB, or Appendix QH, Pony/WB crosses will all do well with the right training. But for under $5k, they will be green broke, not broke or older. :)

Any breed can be a good hunter or jumper - it all depends on you and the horse.
Warmbloods definately have the advantage, as do Thoroughbreds, but they CAN be pricey, but not necassarily. Of course, you don't need a pure bred. A grade horse will do find - that was my first hunter/jumper.
So just try anything that's in the right price and is trained to jump =)
