I like the look of breastplates (I love how martingales look, but my horse doesn't need one) and it would keep my saddle from sliding back, but my friend said it restricts the horse's movement. If that's true, then does anyone know by how much? I would get one but I don't want to if it will restrict mister Gussy...
If you have no idea what I'm talking about... it's this:

are you english? i guess they call them different names, but western riders call them breast collars.
if YOU ARE western, then breast collars dont restrict movment at all. but i dont know anything about english, otherwise. :)

that's silly, they don't restrict movement if adjusted properly

i've never heard of breastcollars restricting movement. i jumped silky with one all the time. and just look at how many professionals used breastcollars. if you need one, use it =)

i knew that. gah. i get confused because one is english and the other is western. my mom calls them breastcollars because she rode western but i know they are breast plates in english. what EVER. they go in pretty much the same place on the horse, and you know what i'm talking about. just because i didn't use the exact terminology, lol.

Brestplates don't restrict, as long as they are put on properly. As long as they fit, their shouldn't be anything but goodness =) Have fun shopping

Oh I wasn't trying to be mean! It's just that they have two completely different purposes, and you and I are both confused I guess :p
Ok, I just re-read the post. I misread it, my fault, sorry. Breast Collars do not restrict the horses movement, as long as they aren't way too tight, like some people like them...I thought you were asking about martinggales....oops. :o Sorry about that...but if that picture is of a breast collar, it doesn't look like mine...
And I need to correct myself. In my last post I said breastplates and breast collars are not the same thing...I believe they are, I wrote breast plates and I meant martinggales....and to think I considered going English...*sigh*

Breast plates don't restrict movement at all! The horse is still able to work effectively with one on.
I use one on my three year old and he's fine with it. :)

no problem =) i was just like errr then what are they haha. but yeah, the plate word is more english and the collar is more western. plates are thin, collars are thicker. lol. whatever. they keep the saddle from slipping back! haha. there. we're good =D
