Okay, I need some advice because I'm not sure what to do. My brain kind of ceases to function when I think about this topic because I'm so undecided.
Almost a year ago I left my old barn and went to a small boarding barn. I absolutely love it. It's quiet, Ringo is ESTATIC there, the people are wonderful, and they are knowledge and truly care about their horses. I also get to kind of work there, and it has pretty nice facilities. I do not, and will not move barns.
I moved with my trainer, and he is truly an awesome teacher. He can be really harsh, and kind of blunt, but he is the best instructor I've had, most of the time anyways lol. And I haven't gotten a pole or crop thrown at me, so I'm ahead of some of his other students lol.
Our conflicting schedules (mostly his shows and stuff) have led me to have about 10 lessons with him since February. And I got my horse in September, and we did NOT have a smooth trip. Actually, according to my current trainer, I skipped tow horses to get to my current one. (I went from a justaboveschool horse to Ringo...) But he said my worth ethic and passion made him sure I could do it.
Also, at the last two shows (February and January or something), I felt like I had done nothing right. I've never owned a horse before - Ringo is my first. I'm still learning. I got yelled at by both him and my dad about alot of things - they actually made me cry, and I never ever cry.
There's been a lot of times I've been afraid to ride Ringo, because of his bucking. From September to about February or March, Ringo and I had good days and bad days, more bad then good the earlier you go. He likes to buck -when hes happy or mad. I've never ridden a bucking horse. Alot of times I stayed on, sometimes I didn't. Indoors it never hurt because our footing is so deep - I've fallen off about 5 or 6 times inside. I've always gotten back on, and I've ridden out more of his bucks then fallen.
Outside he's gotten me off twice - once last night. It hurts alot, and right now I have a swollen back, gravellish road burn thingers on my arms and back, and I'm feeling completely ungood. lol.
On the ground Ringo and I have a really good relationship, and generally I'm confident in the saddle, especially when we jump - Ringo and I are good at that. HE can jump the moon, and he makes me look good. He has never refused with me, and that's one of the best thing about him - how he loves to jump.
At shows though he gets so hyper and wound up that I was literally TERRIFIED of riding him - in a 2'6 class! Well, Jumper anyways cause I'm new at that and he was new to me. Now I'm okay, casue I've figured him out.
But I need to have lessons, and I need instruction with Ringo. I don't know that my current trainer is giving me that. Also, I've done two hunter shows (smmmallll ones) and I want to do a little more hunter, higher. I've jumped Ringo around 4'0 - he was amazing. He concentrates on his job when the fences are bigger. We actually rode a course and he LOVED it. He did kick out but out of happiness, and it wasn't an actual buck.
I know I'm going to fall off, that's a given, but I don't know if I shoudl get a new trainer or...I don't know. My confidence has taken a fall because I thought I'd finally figured Ringo out, at least in his bucking thing. I can stay on most of the time, and he usually doesn't buck, this is the first time in a long while. BUt after the 5th buck I was smack in the dirt, and I've never even been told exactly what to DO when he bucks. That's part of the problem.
So does anyone have any advice? For bucking or training or trainers or anythign?
