I have a Thoroughbred gelding and I've been trying to find out who his sire and dam were. He was raced twice as a two year old, and I have found his racing records online, (nothing special...but apparently he was also short and kind of skimpy when he was young - he shot up at four years) but I haven't been able to find his pedigree.
His racing/registered name is No More Subsidy.
He was bred in Canada (I'm pretty sure, but not completely) and raced at Northland's Racetrack in Edmonton, Alberta. Here's a link to his racing record:
http://cs.sunysb.edu/~skiena/horse/horse/n/no_more_subsidy!.html
Ringo (my TB) was born in 1999.
I also don't want to have to pay to find out. I did find his name in the racehorse registry, but I have no clue how to search for bloodlines, and google didn't really help.
Thanks!

The link didn't work for me, but I'd be more than happy to help. You say your horse's name is Ringo, but registered name is No More Subsidy. How did that work out?

Well his registered/racing name is No More Subsidy.
I bought him September 06, and his new show name was Ringo Starr. His barn name was Ringo.
So either Ringo was just his barn name when he was a foal and they just chose that reg name for availability, or whatever. So, I'm not entirely sure on that one. Lol. I decided just to keep his show name that, because it fits him.

That is a link to the Jockey Club. There is FAQs and it might help find Ringo's pedigree. There may be an email too. I didn't check too deep, but if there is you can probably email them your questions about Ringo's pedigree.

Oh my god. That's what you were looking for? That site? Dang me! I have looked a few horses there (don't really like it because there's no pictures, but that's how I found Affirmed isn't Ace's daddy but grandfather).
La. I am such a dope. =P

That is great. You have a wonderous horse. Northern Dancer? He is quite a legend. I like him. There is a Thoroughbred book based on him. You are so lucky. Who else does he have?

Native Dancer...And I can trace it back ot the 1600's, and I saw Darely Arabian, and his grandsire on his dam's side made almost 300k. I'm was very impressed, and pleasantly surprised. His dam made about 15k, but his sire was unraced.
-dances-
I printed out up to 7 generations lol.
I'm veryvery excited about this, if you couldn't tell haha. Now I can upstart all those evil show brats by saying yeah, your horse may be imported but does it have some of the greatest Canadian racehorses of all time in their pedigree.
Not that pedigree counts for everything, but its still cool.... lol

Wow! That's very exciting! I'd love to know my OTTB's pedigree and other info... people have told me he looks like he could be related to Native Dancer, like your boy.
My hope is that someday I will be able to read his tattoo (it's SO hard to read, his Coggins just has question marks in the tattoo section, haha) and enter it in this site. I will DEFINITELY pay $50 to know all that about my horseyy, hehe.

Nope. We don't have any info on him from before we bought him, since he was abandoned by his old owner.

-growls- Who could abandon gus?
That's too bad. You said you can't read his tatoo right?
I wonder if when he was being uhh tatooed he shifted or something.

It used to be clearer, but it's faded away as he got older. I never wrote it down before though, because I didn't know sites like this existed. I guess by the time a tatto is 16 years old and it's been rubbed away by chewing and stuff, it's kind of hard to read. But yeah, it's pretty impossible to decipher.

jill it is impossible to believe someone could possibly abandon Gus. Poor boy. Have you had your vet check it out? If she/he can't read it, you may try a specialist if you really want to know his past that is.

The vet can't, his coggins just has ?'s where the tattoo letters/numbers go. Errrgh. Specialist? Hrm, I do, but that sounds expensive. Haha. It's just pretty impossible to read, they are pretty much just black shapeless splotches. Eerrrrghh. D:

Jill one of the ladies in our barn used a black light to see her horses tatoo he was in his 20s so it wasn't totally legible but she got what she needed. So you could maybe try that :)

Wow...I loved it..Garden City <3..and he has War Admiral...I think our horses must be like..oh gosh. TB lines confuse me. They are all so...connected lol.
That's sooo awesome!
And the black light idea was cool too, that might work.

ya i took a tour at lands end in kentucky a year ago and they explained since a stallion has so many 'partners' in order for a horse to be like bro/sister/cousin they have to have the dam in common. Which in my mind is crap haha so both of our horses have Deputy Minister as a Great Grandfather so it would make them like 2nd cousins :D I think I did that right.
lol and I hate his name... Garden Cityyyy wth hes a gelding lol his name has been recycled a FILLY has it now, yes that makes more sense. I show him under US Marshal it makes much more logical sense since his daddy was Key Deputy and my grandpa was a US Marshal so I just got it from there. Wow I ramble lol
