i think a thread like this already exists, but i'm in a very difficult situation that is different from that thread.

i've always been curious as to my TB mare's lines. i don't own her anymore [she is still in my barn, though], lol, but i still want to find out her lines. the problem is, i don't have the faintest idea as to where to start.

when i bought her i was told she was half TB, and my old trainer hadn't bothered to find out anything else. so, i don't know the other half. however, numerous numerous people have told me she looks full TB [which she does], and a lot of people asked me if she'd been raced. she's not registered with the jockey club [no lip tattoo] so i'm sure she wasn't raced and i'm pretty sure she is only half TB. she may have been raced under not-so-official circumstances, though.

my old trainer saw her at show in gulfport, mississipi in february or early march of 2004. i believe she competed in children's hunter at that show. she came to kari martin's barn in south texas in march 2004. she's a 16.2 h mare who, in 2004, was a light dapple grey and was about 7 years old. she has a large, 4 in or so long scar on her left hindquarter somewhat close to her tail. she also has a white back foot and a star, a thin stripe and a snip on her face. her bottom lip was quite big, lol. her barn name was [and is] silky. i have no idea what they showed her as. she rode in a pelham with a chain and was not a great mover and her head was usually up. she wasn't very personable and didn't seem like she'd ever received much attention from someone like a devoted owner before [she became very loving towards me so i'm thinking she had just been shuffled around]. she clips well but didn't always load so well [she did get better, though!].

i have no idea what lines her TB side has and i would really like to know, but i have no starting point. if anyone has ever seen her at shows in the south prior to 2004, please let me know. i don't know if the lady who sold her to me was a trainer from gulfport or somewhere else. if you know anything about her, please let me know. i really would like to find out who had her before me and whatnot [like how she got such a big scar].

below are some pictures of her when i had her.

She's BEAUTIFUL! Don't have any information, but oh my lord!

Aren't papers supposed to tell a horse's bloodlines?

thank you, lol - she doesn't have great conformation lol but thanks.

like i said, she isn't registered [i know this because she has no tattoo like a registered TB does] and she most likely isn't full TB. you don't get papers with bloodlines unless they're registered with some breed association. papers would help me a lot, but alas she just didn't have any.

it's probably impossible to find her lines but oh well. i figure i might as well try! her new owner would like to know, as well.

Yeah...looks like a lot of people don't get them...seeing how there was another girl wondering about her tb's bloodlines.

I saw this colt that's supposed to be a grandson of Strait From Texas (and he's very good looking) priced at $450 because the owners said the people who owned his father didn't put him down, so he will never have papers.

But wow, I found a grey that I really like, hehe. I'm normally into black and chestnut horses, and though I love some greys, their color isn't what attracted me but their disposition. And that horse is so beautiful. I'm sorry you had to sell her.

yeah. thanks =) if i think about it too much i really start to miss her. i mean i love my new horse but her and i had the best bond one could ask for. it was tough but i had both at the same time for about 4 months so i kind of did it gradually, which was nice.

Why did you have to give her up?

i didn't have to sell her, but she wasn't good enough for A show hunters, and that's what i wanted to do, so i sold her and got a new horse from germany. silky is a fantastic jumper for A shows, but thats not what i wanted to do. she's still in my barn and i still see a lot. watching her show is the most nerve-racking thing ever. i can barely watch. i get so incredibly nervous because i want her to do well. she's like my child lol. but yeah.

How could you sell her?!?! ( Just kiding, I know why...)

Well if you can find out all her past show names...That might help. Also see if you can work your way back by calling old owners and asking them who they bought her from etc, and you might get the breeders or whatever eventually. That's not a fool proof way though....Hmm...

I can't think of anything else...if she's not registered and doesn't have a tatoo...is she microchipped?

You could also ask your vet for information, they may know. Or the farrier or something.

And she's goregous, by the way. <3

I can't stop looking at her! She's just too beautiful!

If there were horse models, an agent would hire her. =P

I can't believe that because she is seriously one of the prettiest horses I've ever seen...if not THE prettiest. Never mind her scar. (besides, scars can be sexy, and that gives geldings a reason to check out her butt) She is beautiful or incredibly photogenic.

Just to point something out, a TB does not have to have a lip tattoo to be registered. They only recieve a tattoo if they are put on the track. My TB is registered (I have his papers) but he doesn't have a tattoo, so if you know anything about your mare's show names/possible registered name from previous owners, you could probably find out more about her. (she is beautiful by the way ! :])

You are right, she isn't really all that conformationally correct (She is beautiful though, very sweet face), my guess is that she is pure thoroughbred, but since she didn't come out to the standards of the breeder they refused to register her for fear of making a black mark on the sires name. It's just a thought, but it's not uncommon. I hope you find what you are looking for. Again, she's cute

Ok, maybe it's just me, but her head looks a little small for her body compared to most TBs I've seen...that to me says Qh...maybe she's half QH? Just my opinion...

But I hope you can find something out!
