so my little thin styrofoam-ish riser pad is starting to get old, and i really don't think it gives that much support anymore as it has ripped in the front and is hard to get to lay properly under the saddle. my horse isn't too high-withered and doesn't have any back problems or anything, but i like to have a pad as a bit of extra support.
so does anyone have any reccomendations on the brands?

http://www.doversaddlery.com/circuit-sheepskin-half-pad/p/X1-19481/cn/1405/ is a very nice pad but honestly I wouldn't use one unless you need to. If you saddle truly fits then a half pad can actually cause problems because it can make your saddle more narrow then it truly is. Is your saddle is a bit wide and you use one to help it fit then I'd recommend the Circuit pad or another relatively thin half pad.

I use one with Wes, and I love the roma pads. You can find them relatively cheap on ebay, I've been looking to get a new one as well.

I like the Roma riser pads too. They add some nice support if the flocking in your saddle has flattened or if the saddle is a little big on your horse. In my school's lesson program, we always used riser/half pads for extra protection for all the lesson horses as they were being used so much and had to deal with all levels of riders. If a horse's back is sore, they can't perform their jobs, so do whatever you can to make them comfortable.

If your saddle fits properly, you really do not need the riser pad, however if you like to have someting a little extra the fleece or wool pads are specially designed to fit the contuors of your horses back. Mattes pads while expensive do an excellent job of wicking away sweat and solving minor back problems. They are most effective when used directly on the horses back and come in several syles. Check out this website...again they are pricey but will last forever, and will not break down as foam pads do.

The Fleeceworks pads are so soft, they're wonderful. However, I usually use Beval pads. :)

I use Fleeceworks too. So nice. ^^ I only use mine for shows, mind you, without another pad underneath. [Just because my saddle fits my pony so well that when I added the half pad underneath with another regular saddle pad I got shot out the front over the fences. But that's probably just me. lol]
So yes, I suggest the Fleeceworks. They're so nice, and really easy to maintain. Plus they last 9373525292046 years. ^^

It's good to use them only at shows so that they're not spoiled, since they're so amazing. :D
