Just becuase he wanted to be done dosen't mean that he can start acting up and bucking. Once he started bucking I would take him to a round pen (or lunge him) and work him for about 15-20 mins start at the trot or canter. Hopefully when you are done, he will have more respect for you. :)

My mom once had a mare that would do the kinda the same thing. Once you got on her she would start bucking. Once she did that she got a lunge line and lunged her for a good 15 or 20 mins at the trot or canter. After my mom did that, boy was she more respectful! :D Hope this helps.

If it's only happening when the both of you are on him, there's a good chance it could be a back issue. Were you riding double bareback or with a saddle? Sounds like pain to me, I would have him checked out by a vet and/or chiropractor.....if it were me....

I somewhat agree with stargirl. There might be a pressure point that your friend might be sitting on when you guys double up. My friend and I use to double up all the time and jump 3ft like that bareback. If the horse is just trying to get his way and it really isnt back problems then he is probably fighting over dominance with you and you need to gain that control back.

I wish you the best of luck. :)

it could be a back issue...or the 2nd one up was sitting on the kidneys...

I really dislike seeing horses ridden double because at that point they are then compensating for 2 riders who might be sitting a bit differently from each other and distributing their weight odd for him...which could account for the bucking as well if he was feeling out of balance or confused.

why are you riding double in the first place? It puts the second rider in a place not designed to carry weight.

I dont do it that often! The last time i did was like a 3 weeks ago. I want him to get used to different things. What happens if your friends horse runs away? Are you suppose to make them walk to catch their horse especially if the horse is scared?!

it may not be making him sore in the long run....but it could be ouchy for him at the moment...I've rode short backed horses bareback and going up steep hills slid back and they bucked me off because I was on their kidneys and they didn't like it..

yep I'd walk back. My trainer would ask me to leave the barn if I ever did something so irresponsible as to hop on a tacked up horse double, especially after its friend had just galloped off.

When someone is on his butt, he probly doesn't like it and bucks tring to get them off.. that's my guess

I didnt make this thread to get criticized as to how i ride my horse! I made it so i could get help with him! I know double isnt that good for horses yet you never asked how many times i have ridden him double have you? I hate it when people jump to conclusions as to how i treat my horse! He is the best thing in my life and i would never push him to do something he doesnt want to do especially since he is usually really good about everything double riding, desentitising, etc!

1) you know that riding double is not good for your horse

2) your normally well behaved horse is acting up when ridden double

then maybe you shouldn't be doing it. If he's acting up then he's telling you he doesn't want to do it.

Saying you've only done it a few times doesn't mean jack. If you know it's bad then why do it.

I don't think you don't take of your horse right at all. You just wanted to try something new and weren't sure what the problem was.

Since he continually acts up when carrying double, I would definately suggest not doing it, or if you REALLY REALLY want to do it, get someone to check out his back first.

I have already made an appointment to get a chiropractor out for friday...and than i am probably going to wait to do it for a while than if he hates it i wont do it again. i think someone has been riding him without my permission again(i hate people!!) and i am more stressed out about that and school and trying to find a job. I am trying not to get mad but i HATE it when anyone says that i dont take care of my horse! He is the best thing in my life!!!! Noone is listening to anything i am saying!!!

Thanks...Bareback is really hard for me to but i do it so i can get better balance. I know that i would never ride him double bareback that could really hurt him!

Creek dont crap yourself, people are just looking out for the best of the horse and for you, what would happen if you and your friend road dobble in the woods and your horse reared, bucked ect because it was too much weight for him to carry, and the both of you guys fell off and he took off, and your friend got badly hurt. Things like that could happen, or you can hurt your horse.

I have ridden doubble when i was 5 years old and the horse had a long back and it wasnt too much weight. But there is no need to bite someones head off for stating their opinion, you do take good care of your horse and you love him.

If someone is riding your horse without permission (AGAIN?!) I would leave that barn, or talk to the owner. That is NOT permissable. What happens if your horse injures the rider?? What if she injures your horse?

I would suggest SERIOUSLY talking to the barn owner, and consider finding another barn if the problem persists.

Trying something new is not a bad thing. For some horses it may be harder to carry the extra weight. Think about it: you might not be a big person, your friend might not be a big person, but together, you are probably somewhere between 250-300 pounds. For a part arab that's a lot of weight.

If someone was riding my horse behind my back I would not simply walk in and talk to someone about it (this should have already been adressed since you love your horse, so no doubt the barn owner knew about it). I would walk in screaming and shouting and pitching a fit and throwing things. If the barn owner wants to ignore the issue then you have every right to ignore every restraint you have and just let yourself out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't be a push over, this is NOT an issue to be taken lightly. I really want to know that you have already talked to them and that you have smacked those kids for riding your horse. Maybe you can ask someone who is there all day to keep an eye on him. If they catch anyone messing with your horse have them call you immediately and then you can drive up and personally holler and scream at them and their parents and then take them to the barn owner and have them banned from the property. I am SO dead serious about this Creek, don't think for one second that I have dramatized any of these things because I would do it myself.

I agree! Or does your saddle fit wrong??

I know i have already talked to the barn owner and everything. I seriously dont want to leave the barn i love it to much. But i warned them that if it happens again i am leaving! No the saddle fits fine i have had my instructor check it and about 3 other ppl who are good saddle fitters.
