I have a show coming up. My shpw horse went lame so I have to use my other. Do you think this mare will place in halter classes? Plase give me your opinnion.
Thanks CC! ;)
PS- This is the only picture I have as a link is this one. Go one Montana's profile (Hannah Montana) and there is a really nice comfirmtation pic on there. Thanks for going to all the troubel! ;)

She's a nice mare, to be sure, but she's got her faults. Probably due to age she has withers that are slightly too prominent, with a low back. Her neck is a little too thick and ties in a little low to her shoulder and a bit cresty. A suggestion when you set her up for inspection, I would haver her hold her head straight out, it wont make it seem so thick and her withers so prominent. Her three's aren't even, meaning her length from head to wither, wither to loin, loin to buttock. Her legs are straight, and she has a deep heartgirth, all of which she has going for her. Her face is kind of bland, not ugly, but her eyes are a little small for her face and her face is a littles straight. Overall, I would have to see the horses she'd be going up against, but she wouldn't be my first choice against Bargain... I'm not trying to pout her down, this is just my opinion and experience

I see what you mean by she has a thick neck... but Montana's a beautiful and sweet horse! :)

I don't doubt one bit that she's a sweet mare, I would love to have her, I love dark bays. I was just judging her based on my experience at the national horse judging competition. I placed 18th in the nation. To me that's not all that great, but considering there were about 500 people I cant complain.

Well I would love to show Bargain because she is my show horse but she is lame! I wanted to take her but I can't. But last time I won 6th with Montana. And she has changed a lot in figure because she is getting ready for the show. This is an old picture. Usally her head in down. Thanks though. We bought her for $800 so I thought that was pretty good!

She is an exceptional horse for the price you paid. You really lucked out. Do you have any current conformation pics of her that I can see? I'm sure if you exercised her belly off and built muscle in her hind end, as well as sweated her neck out then I would have a lot better things to say about her. How old is she?

I don't sweat their neck just to win. So I don't do that. Montana just turmed 11 in May. I took a picture of her today. They are on her profile because the pictures where to bi to put as a link. Sorry she is so dirty! Just came in form the pasture! :o Also she isn't square if that makes a difrence.

I think once she's set properly she will look stronger in the top-line. She isn't bred for halter, so if you go up against a horse out of Mr. Yella Fella then you probably wont beat him. She is built more for English/Western riding, so she has a slightly longer back and neck with a more refined muscle structure to her. If the judge you are showing under is true to conformation and balance over muscle then she should do well. She would do even better with trotting work and... well, I guess exercise in general ;) ... good luck and have fun! Remember, people pay money to go bowling to have fun, they pay to go to a fair to have fun, and they go to shows to have fun. Don't try to get too competitive, its all fun until you get to the big shows like the circuits and breed shows

She has slowed down so so much. I don't care about her being slow I just want her head relaxed and calm. Thats what places you! ;)

Thank You all!! But I don't care how slow she goes all I want is her headset to be level because Patricia said thats what places you in WP or any pleasure really! And this time sadly Bargain has to watch from her stall! :( But she still gets a bath and will be treated just like Montana. ;)

i dont know much about western pleasure, but i think that if u stay calm and have light reins, her head will be just fine. good luck and even if u dont win, both u and ur horse will gain experience, so it could be a good thing! ;)

Thanks a lot! Everyone is telling me she has to be slow she is going to fast for WP but all I'm worried about is her headset and if she and I are calm. Thanks for the advice! ;)

no problem, u 2 will do great. i dont know if western riders do this, but using half halts are great for slowing down a horse. i use them all the time, and they really seem to work.

Hey, I was riding in this show, I didn't think the judge would like it too well if I had the reins in one hand and the video camera in the other!!! :) HEHE. Sorry....I'll get the next one, I promise (not going to be showing for a long time apparently...)

Lol! Your right! I'm going to keep her mane long for a while (espcially in Pony Club show season.) Becuase it makes her neck look thinner with long mane then with short. Do you see/understand what I mean?
