I bought my second horse last weekend. So exciting!
On the night of the 24th I found out my horse's dam was for sale 1,500 miles away. By noon on the 26th I had her paid for and she was on a trailer headed here! I was SO thrilled to find her.
She's filthy and hairy as all get out (came from the north where it was snowing already!) but she's everything I had hoped. She's older, 18, but a really quality mare- she's a Bashkir Curly and will be double registered with Curly Sporthorse International pending inspection. Even at her age she moves like a dream- I really took a chance buying her sight unseen but am so glad I did.
Now to the exciting business of picking out the right stud for her. I'm so thrilled about breeding her- though I'm not sure I'll be able to let the foals go!
She's been a broodmare most of her life but had a rough summer, from what I gather. The lady selling her had owned her for only 4 months and poor ebony is just a nervous wreck. I talked to the breeder who sold her to this gal who said she had none of those problems when she owned her. :( She's getting handled every day by competent hands, though, and I can already see her starting to relax a little.
Oh, her name is Ebony. Isn't that hilarious?
