In your opinion when is the best time to transition from a snaffle to a curb?

I don't train personally, but I believe that the right time to make the transition is when the horse is going well in the snaffle - both responsive and comfortable. If the horse is to make the transition at all, it should be when the horse is responding to very light cues, working off your legs and seat as much if not more than the reins, and has learned basic neck reining skills. Some horses don't even need to make the transition, but if they do, they should learn all their skills without added leverage first so that their foundation is solid and not relying on extras.

I don't really know. Maybe you should put the curb bit on the horse and then make the curb chain really loose. Because a curb chain pinches the horse (just to get started).

well, in the show pen its required that they be in the bit by the age of 5. but that doesnt mean all horses are that way. mines 7 and it his first year showing :/ and he's just finally gotten the bit. I use a snaffle w/ shanks, try that out for starters too
but def, when their going off of your leg and seat, not your hands.
I'm going in a different direction with my horse. But what I do know is, don't put in your horses mouth and immediately go to work, He'll try to spit it out, just let him get use to it.Also the way I plan on getting my horse into a bridle is through the use of the Hackamore Right now she is in a 5/8 Bosal, when she does everything perfect in the Hackamore I will use a 3/8 Bosal and use two rein (One for the bit the other for the Hackamore) this is one of the original ideas of getting a bridled horse (long time ago)
