you can start breaking a horse from day one.... We started putting stuff on my gelding's back at 6 months. So you if you can find a pony saddle or a light wintec one go ahead and start with that then maybe graduate to actually tightening the girht and lunging... you can even start with bitting up and doing long lines and driving... that way you can start riding at two years.. The ground work is the most important and if you start that early and really do a good job your horse will be realllllly easy to break.

we started breaking our baby at a little bit of an older age. We put a halter on her the day after she was born. We lunged her and did a ton of ground work with her after she was weaned and a little while she wasn't. She turned three in august(very late baby) and she has been ridden probably 14 times so far...she is soooooo super quiet it is amazing. you can walk trot and canter her, and she has jumped a couple little tiny cross bars.

I don't think there is a specific time to start putting a saddle on, it differs between different horses. But I would do it soon and when your horse is comfortable with the saddle, girth, bit, and bridle on, you could start ground work like lunging. I just started riding my three year old horse because I've heard that your horse's feet can be damamged by riding the horse too soon and I was scared to death that was gonna happen to me.
Basically, you can start whenever you want to now.
