Im currently leasing a paint mare named Lindy that is 10 years old. Im planning on jumping her for some spring and summer shows going on this year. I need some help though one of the ladies at my barn said i have to strengthen her back legs and i was wondering if anyone could help and teach me how to do that. Even though she is ten years old she is capible for jumping. Help will be apriciated. (sp?) Thanks

A horse at my stables wasn't taught to jump until she was ten, and she was moved pretty fast...

But I suggest you read...

do a lot of trotting, that'll strengthen her hindquarters. it's especially effective if you go up and down hills :]

I ride a 15 year old Swedish Warmblood mare and I'm teaching her how to jump! She acts like she is 5! I TOTALLY agree with manda, maybe just like go in 2 piont and let her trot briskly around the ring

walking up and down sloping hills with strengthen the stifle

stretches improve flexiblity and reach

trotting up hills builds endurance and muscle in the hindquarters

trotting while reaching into contact on the flat will build the topline.

Work on collecting her at the trot and canter to engage her hind end and build muscle. ;)
