well start on the ground doing basic give to preasure exercises i would say that you should do everything new from the ground first for emergency stopss pull his head around and chase his but with a long whip ummmmm trie around the world and emergency dismounts and mounts ummm serpantines zig zags uhh lead changes bare back , rideing with a halter getting on both sides so if you had to in an emergency he wuold be used to it obsticle courses with lots of things that he could spook at so he gets used to them uuuuuuuh ok i'm done :D

Try to vary routines so the youngster isn't bored and introduce obstacles, to get him spook-proof and used to as many things as possible. Good luck!

You may also want to look up some good horse training books :].

They are chock full of tips and methods.

if ya want him to pick up the leg pressure thing. when you turn put pressure with ur opposite leg every time you turn or want him to go over a bit and after a while he'll relize that you putting pressure on his side means to turn and what not
