About bamboo crops? Are they in or not?
I personally love the way they look! They are really cute for the ponies.... I would buy one but Brooks would have a coronary.... He does not do crops!

I have never actually seen one in person but they look cool, they are becoming the really "In" thing. .That is really cool, pretty soon they will join the band of traveling trends along with Colored coat liners and helmet stripping!

I have not ever seen bamboo crops, can you use them in the hunter ring? Are they "traditional" enough? I am feeling left out, I can't beleive I haven't seen or heard of them. Thanks for keeping me updated!

You would like them, they are just like a regular crop but the middle between both ends is bamboo. I have only seen pictures, but I think that they are really pretty, I wouldn't be surprised it the Sturrup Cup has them soon. Lol :D I would like to have one but my trainer would hurt me she doesnt like any of the new stuff. Hehe I should just get one for that reason now! hehe jk! :D

I want one, I saw a "fleck' one on ebay, but it was $54! Too much for me, who would rather buy a new camera, or other items.

Yes, please post! I googled bamboo riding crops and what came up were, um, let's just say "less than wholesome" sites.

I like them okay, I guess. I'm rather conservative, though, so would tend to go plainer.

hey....

so jackie just got me into this website...kind of addictive it is. hehe

anyways, vicki has a bamboo crop that is all bamboo except the handle the the whip part on the end. i think she said it's thicker and stronger so if you have a really stubborn horse that it works well. I think I would only carry one in the jumper ring because it would stand out in the hunters. Plus, the horses I ride with crops it is usually only so they know i have it or the occasional "wake up" tap.

So I was at the Menlo Charity show a few years back and a working the gate of the main hunter ring. A trainer who, of course, will remain nameless, rides in the ring on an average horse for there and; well, does ok no problems.... Doing multiple cards as is a norm for hunter rings, he steps out between rounds for just a second and drops something to his assistant which is not a crop, then goes back for a second round. I ask the ass. (get it short for assistant) what that was. To her credit she was honest and says, "its bamboo wrapped with electrical tape..." My point is this, if you would like to have a crop with bamboo centers for a decoration thing, or vanity thing- fine that is a persons choice and personnal preference. But if a person uses it for dicipline on a horse you should know a couple things... The reason that trainer used bamboo with electrical tape is because of the sting it inflicted on the horse. A common crop with a plastic 'core' (the shaft of the crop under the outer thread right, where your bamboo would be) has a certain reflexability.. In other words even as hard as you hit a horse the center acts like a fishing pole would when you catch a fish, it bends...... basically anyway... A bamboo will not give in that fashion and is really hard to break. Maybe that is why bamboo was used alot when polling was still cool......\
In closing my first posting on this cool new thing my friend has created, I think it really comes down to a personnal choice, but how bout Ivory handles? Or I got it --- Pearl! Sounds about the same to me as bamboo....
That is my opinion, with I am sure more to come...........

Good point. Also it seems like crops are one of those items (like hairnets or gloves) that people tend to go through fairly regularly either from wear 'n tear or from loosing it. This can really add up over time from the money perspective. I can see where this might become a fashion trend but personally I'll pass.

Oh.... that's so weird... I wonder how that'd go over in hunters? I'd be afraid to break it... plus that's a lot for a crop

mmm, they look kind of cute, but i don't think i'd buy one. i like the traditional ones. black is good in the show ring, but i don't mind my hot pink one for schooling. :o haha! :p

*shrugg* i personally just like black crops.

von Z 33 made a good point, it probably has a nice sting to it. my horse would not like that. Lol.
