My horse Tia is VERY VERY sick right now. (As, many of you know.) And I was wondering if there was a possible way I could help her gain some muscle. Beucase I haven't ridden her in 5 to 6 weeks, becuase of her condition. Her vet's at the hospital said, "NO, forced work!" So I can't lunge her or anything.
Thanks!

well it takes work to build muscle, so I don't think you should worry about it right now, and when she gets better, ease her back into work don't just start where you left off. The vet school knows best! ;)

Tia will have plenty of time to build muscle when she's better....right now, just concentrate on getting her there and try to keep her comfortable....you can worry about conditioning and muscling her later...:)

I know how you feel.
Cassia is still recovering from founder and is almost over it, but has to stay in her stall most of the time with the exception of being turned out in a small paddock [weather permitting, so this isn't too often. It's rained here like crazy.]. She can't stand it and gets so upset since she is the type of horse who lives to please and has to have a job to stay happy. So I started with some flexing and took her out on walks. Right now she is just getting back up to loungeing at a walk and very slow jog for under five minutes each direction.
Is she healthy enough to do some type of soft groundwork? I'm sure you could do some flexing with her, or like hoovesfirst says take her for a nice walk every day. It is so hard to watch them pace about wanting to work, but it pays off in the end when they are eager to get back to work and 100% back to normal. :)

Walking on lead is probably the best bet. at least it will keep her moving.

No, she can't have any "forced" work, what so ever.
