I was in TOP HANDS last Friday...I made fifth in barrel-racing, fourth in trail, and third in English Equitation...
I think I did pretty good on barrels (everybody said so, but I just shrugged it off because while I did it I focused so hard I was a bit stressed afterwards). Of course, the horse's agility counts. So even though Petite, the horse I was told to use, barely veered off, it was mainly judging her speed. And we were going at a walk...like everybody but still...so four horses were faster. It's just what happens in life, you know.
Then trails...well, I did EVERYTHING right until the backing up part. It's so funny cause before I entered the show, I backed Petite up easily, no prob. But I did exactly what I did with her before and she wouldn't back up and veered off. I spent like 30 seconds to a minute hopelessly TRYING to get her to back up those five perfect steps because I should've been able to do that part, the part ppl had the hardest time on. I turned her far enough that she came up STRAIGHT next to those poles...anyway, aside from that bit, I KNOW I did everything perfect.
But Petite and I didn't really know each other anyway. So like she'd fly for me.
She was a nice horse though.
The English Equitation thing I did with Deedee. While doing it, she pinned back her ears really bad. She OBEYED, but she looked angry and like she didn't want to. Not that I blame her. But there were only four contestants, so I don't feel third was that big of a deal.
At the end though, everybody SAID since I'd only been riding a year, those were amazing awards, but I just...don't know.
Still, I did my best, which is all that matters. And Petite and Deedee gave their all. No buckaroos. (Dewey apparently bucked a poor, unsuspecting rider off.)
