That was so amazing! I love how she backed her up! And stood on her back!

God, it was just terribly amazing to see such a video. =)

Exactly!

I don't know if I'll ever be that good, but it was nice to pretend while watching, haha. But I'm more of a ground-work gal than rider (unless the horse has a smooth gait). Riding isn't my weakness, but I don't think I have it naturally (someone said I do but I think she was just being nice, hah).

I wouldn't fall off...I know cause I do the bareback thing.

Oh, and you'd probably be better on a horse with a really smooth gait and pudgy belly. That prob will keep you from falling off.

Seriously, my first bareback canter, I never took cantering lessons, but my body knew what to do on Smutt! But if she'd been Ace, I'd probably have had trouble...wouldn't have fallen off (I don't when they're going fast, even if I cling to their neck), but I would've been shaken and unstable. He's not as easy on the butt as my darling Smutt.

Do you have a horse with a smooth gait to ride?

Lol i know how to canter on a horse bareback, i just havent dont that in sooo many years.
Im talking about the standing on the horses back part, id either A) fall on my head, or B) fall on my butt and make a fool outta myself :D :p

Ah, a bareback canter is a dream that became reality. I do it on my Mom's Thoroughbred, Cassia. She used to play like trotting was her only gait, but miraculously she now walks, trots, canters, and hand gallops. :)

Reining is amazing. I hope to do it again some day if I don't get back into English. Endurance is the only thing I am positive I am going to get into in 5 to 6 years at most. I went to apply for an internship and sat on a horse that was about to start hitting the show ring. I was shocked when they asked me to make him spin - it was a beautiful feeling! Not dizzying at all, like I had thought it would be.

I love her! She did that in 2006, but has been gaining in popularity since, especially more recently. She was even on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and Ellen got to ride the horse! :) I thought that was an awesome video! :D

Over the summer, I want to work with my horse on lungeing her without ANYTHING! (No halter, lunge line) and I also want to be able to ride her with only a rope. (I know I sound crazy, but you all watch! I will post a video prooving I can do it!) :p

I mean in an open arena (lungeing her) not in a round pen.

I don't think that's crazy. It's good to set goals for you and your horse like that. I can't pull off maneuvers like Stacy, but I've ridden my mare without tack before. More like had her lead me around on her back as an involuntary passenger. :) Angel needs at least a lead rope and halter. It's a good place to start from if you want to work toward tack-less period I suppose if they'll do that much.

Our Cassia does it in the middle of the huge pasture if I pick a place to stand and I just cluck my tongue and point into the direction I want to go. If I keep an eye on her she keeps herself in a pretty decent sized circle. :)

I love watching that video! I have seen it like 3 times now, but it never gets old! I am an english rider, but reining is the one western sport that I've wanted to try since I saw it done at a horse judging clinic. She is truly amazing!

Ive done that before (riding with just a lead rope) with Dawn, it was amazing, it was like riding on a cloud because her gait was soo smooth.

crazy4horses- Have fun learning how to do that, once you have the bond w/ your horse its an amazing experiance =)

if your horse is bumpy like mine think of it as a chalenge if you can ride a bumpy horse with no saddle well then rideing a smooth horse is like a dream. i rode a gaited horse for the first time yesterday and it made me feel like an awsome rider compared to the bumpiest arab in the world! :D :p

Oooh. Gaited horses are definitely fun. I'd love to own one someday, but I already have two horses [well one isn't even a fetus yet, but it's going to happen... This is going to be my second personal horse some day.] and I am not the type to overload myself and just keep buying more and more. I've only ridden two but I have to agree with you! Lol, it is a difference! I've not gone just from Arab to Gaited, but I've ridden an Arab and they do tend to have bumpy trots sometimes. Doesn't make them any less enjoyable though! :)
