since he's just settling in, start with getting to know him. brushing him and leading him around is good, and giving him rubs.
one thing that's helpful with young horses is to touch them all over every day. this means his face and ears, neck, legs, belly, etc. ahem, that encludes his sheath too. :D (eventually). obviously take things slowly, but he should get used to people touching him, so he's not one of those horses that doesn't like their ears touched.
i've never trained a yearling, but from what i hear you should also desensitize him to things, like saddles and tack and all that. i don't know if people start putting tack on as a yearling, but i almost bought a 3 yo from a woman who had never been on him. i guess it's just personal preference, i'm just going by what i've heard and read.
i hope i've been of some help?
