Hi,

I was looking at the OHJA website and looking through the local and open system year end point standings and was wondering what everyone though of how things are currently set up.

It seems to be the open system is the competive than the local system.
Seems to me that the open system should be for people who go to a lot of shows and the local should be for people who dont go to the big shows and mainly stay around Oregon.

Is it cheating to be in the local system but still attend all of the shows?

hmmm...well idk, i was in the local system, and only did like the A shows, and mainly stayed in OR. But i didnt do ne of the schoolong shows. I mean i like didnt go to indio and stuff. i dont think that is cheating. Because the local system only gives you points for the shows that were IN oregon.

What if you just go to schooling shows then? Might be hard to compete with people in the local system who go to all the A shows and schooling shows. I understand that people who go to six weeks of indio and all the other shows in the PNW should probably be separated from those who just go to a few summer shows.
Maybe there should be 3 systems or something?

yeah that would be cool to have three systems. I mean... at a lot of the OHJA approoved schooling shows that count for local points, the fences are not even @ the regulation height, and they get the same pointss as someone who had to compete higher for the same division points.... I mean when i had acorn and showed him i rode in the 2'6" med ponies @ A shows, and got points for that. At the same time someone else could go to a schooling show and onnly have 2 jump like 2 foot or 2'3" for med pony hunters and get the SAME points as me....so im not really sure that is fair. I think if they're going 2 have OHJA approoved classes @ a schooling show then they have to be at least regulation height.

Sevda, you are great! The board has been discussing this for the past two years and you are on the money with your observations. We, the OHJA Board, are trying to find a way for the truely "Local" people to be competitive. For the past two years, we have watched many people who only go to rated Oregon shows stay in the Local System, as they cannot compete against the people who go outside of Oregon. We actually tried to discuss a third system. Do think you would be in agreement with this?

I think three systems would be great for oregon! In wa this year we added the state program vs. the national program but up there, we don't have as many schooling shows as in oregon. In oregon, you guys have such a strong group of schooling shows that i think you could handle three systems...
