Girths?

Did any of you read the article in Practical Horseman this month on girths?
What kind of girth do you use normally? At shows?
Also.. have any of you switched from a basic girth to an anatomically correct one like the County girth?? Did you notice a difference?

Currently, I'm using a basic leather girth, with elastic on the left side. In the past though I've used only fleece and nylon girths. I like the fleece and nylon because it's cheap, durable, machine-washable, and gentle on the horse's skin. I've used them for showing, but now that's I'm going bigger shows I might switch to a leather girth. I'd normally recommend a leather girth for showing unless your horse is thin-skinned, or fleece simply looks more flattering on the horse.

depending on which horse i am riding at shows i mostly use a bacis leather one with elastic on the left i also use the kind with the soft fuzzy stuff on the back on some of my more sensitive horses.

When im showing in the bigger jumper classes i have a belly gaurd girth that i got from dover saddlery and when im showing in hunters or just having a lesson i have a plain leather jaguar girth, and when im hacking just a cheap fleece one i got from a tack shop here

I just use a simple contoured leather Stubben girth. I've been really happy with it, although it has a slightly "sticky" texture that won't wash off. :confused:

I just ordered a mico-fleece lined double-elastic girth.

I recently discovered there is a HUGE improvement in my horse's performace with the girth is (almost dangerously) loose!! I'm hoping this double-elastic fleece girth might be comfy enough that I can tighten it enough to be safe and him still be comfortable enough to perform well.

Anyone else every experienced a horse super picky about working in a snug girth?

For schooling and shows I use a fancy stiched padded leather girth :)

Megan has been having great luck with the newer, wider girths with elastic on both ends.

I use a regular leather gerth with the elastic on the left.
