Barrel Racing look easy but it is not there is a lot to it. When you go into the pocket what lead your horse is best at and a whole lot more. To start walk and trot round the barrels ALOT do not always run home. Make sure you let your horse chill out on the trail to help his mind stay settled and ask the persons in your area who is a good barrel trainer because you will need help and if you get the right kind first off you will not have to backtrack so far. If you can't or don't want full training with a professional than the best thing to do is take a lesson or two and than work on that until your next lesson. good luck :)

Something else you can look into is.... Martha Josey, she has some really great training vidoes out there. They can help you learn the A.R.T. of barrel racing. Martha is an awesome horsewoman. Check It out. I wished I could help more, but I haven't chased cans since I was in high school.....Many, many moons ago.
