What kind of prizes do you like? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think that you should get part of you entry back. I am sure thats wishful thinking maybe champion and reserve could get a little voucher that gives you $10-25 off the entry.
As far as real prizes...things you can use. Halter, polos, saddle pads or even cups and plates are better than cheese cutters (yes I have won a cheese cutter before) But maybe small gift certificates.

Ya I agree, like gift certificates to the tack shop at the horse show, that would be cool because you counld save up for something that you really want.
I am kind of sick of getting halters and saddle pads and polos though, I Have way to many of them.

The weirdest thing i have ever one was a horse shaped bar of soap..
i agree the prizes have gotten pretty dull.. but gift certificates sounds like a really good idea.

Or even gift certificates to places to eat around the area or chains. But one year I think at brawley they gave $25 to stirrup cup or something for first place in eq it really nice!

Good question! I am putting together the prize list for the 5 shows at Hunter Creek [Willamette Classic, Country Classic, Hunter Creek Summer, Oregon Summer Series #1 & #2- EVERYONE SHOULD COME!! :D ] and we were talking about prizes, as well as awards for championships.
We were discussing whether or not coolers should always be awarded with championships- I said that I didn't think so, because I think it'd be fun to get saddle pads or scrims, or something useful other than a cooler. What do people think about getting something other than a cooler for a champion prize? Also, what would you like to receive? Or what's your favorite thing that you've gotten as a championship prize?
Or... do you just like coolers?

Personally I think it is fun to win coolers because they are always really pretty. And you get to have then forever you use on other horses also.
But . . . You could do like . . .
- Wind Catcher type jackets.
- Ingraved Plates.
- For the pony kids and the SS, you could do like a breyer horse . . or some polos.
I will think of more.

I would love to see something other than coolers, unless they are going to be really nice coolers instead of the cheapy wool ones, b/c nice dress coolers you can use, the others just end up piled in the corner.... I liked the jackets Mike gave to the eq champs at Salem, they were really cute and useful... I really like monogrammed jackets for champion... my friend who does the quarter horse circuit won a north face fleece for being champion! I wouldn't mind that!

As far as the cooler question, If a show gives out coolers, I prefer the dress sheet better. Although I had an idea for that, what about those quarter sheets? You know those fleece blankets you can ride your horse in. Those might be an interesting twist to the cooler. You can still monogram them so you can remember what show it is from and it would be something new AND something usefull.
One year at the Country Classic show they gave 3/4 zip polarfleece sweatshirts out for prizes, and they were nice ones. I liked those. I also really like the idea of gift certificates.

About the Wilsonville Shows. I have a ton of saddle pads because they give those out at allot of the other shows I go to. But ya skrims are a good Idea, especially for summer.
These might be some good ideas. Halters with engraved Name plates that say like "2006 Willamette Valley Champion" or something idk. Or momogramed Jackets. Monogramed polo shirts. ya idk
I think It might be cool to have a reserve champion prize too. I have seen some polos from the high desert classic that have the show slogan monogramed at the top of the wrap by the velcro, ya it would be cool if they gave out prizes for reserve champion.
Oh and I am going to go to a bunch of the Wilsonville shows that shelley is putting on and I can't wait!
Good luck with the prizes!

Being that one of my goals is to win a cooler, I don't want all horse shows to give up on giving out coolers.
I like the idea of monogrammed vests or sweatshirts. Another cool idea would be a tote bag or boot bag with the show monogram. I also like prizes that have engraving on them like frames, platters, cups and whatnot.

I am definitely going to pass these ideas along!! I really like the idea of monogrammed coats/vests/sweatshirts etc, and quarter sheets too. I think gift certificates would also be pretty useful. I like the idea of winning part of your entry fee back, but the only problem with that is that the entry fees barely cover the cost of the show, at least for the shows around here... and we can usually get sponsors for coolers/coats/etc, and we probably could for gift certificates too.
I know the coolers that we usually give out are fleece dress sheets [like the ones that have been given out at Country Classic and Hunter Creek in years past], they're pretty nice as far as coolers go... unlike the gross synthetic square ones we got at Indio that aren't fleece or wool and as far as I can tell are completely useless!! Although the dogs seem to like them as beds to lay on, they do work well for that.

If we are getting vets/jackets/anything to wear...try to get good sizes. I know its hard to try to get a one size fits all type. But most of the people at shows are female so mens extra-large should be avioded or order a few of them. Because I will win vests or jackets but then I cant wear them becaue they are HUGE!

know what might be kind of cool like if for a special hunter classic or like a mini prix jumper class they give away like a bench for a tack room set up or one of those nice flower pots for a tack room that had the class name and stuff on it.

How about rainsheets? Pacific Northwest does rainsheets (or at least they did when I lived in WA)... :) For Shelley's shows, since there are 5, how about something different at each for Champion? That would certainly be different.
