So im in college now and i dont know what to do. I really dont want to sell him cuz i love him and he is my life but he is just wasting away in the pasture right now and he is only 13. Once spring and summer comes i know that i will be able to work with him more and my trainer will be back from arizona.
Im also thinking about leasing him out than he would get worked more but im nervous about who to lease him out too. There are so many people who assume they are good riders but some couldnt handle a horse like creek with his stubborness and quirkyness. Hes more than greenbroke but isnt quite deadbroke so they would get some of his attitude if they did lease him.
What do you guys think i should do? Thanks

If I were in ur situation I would lease him. Since u don't want to sell him I guess u could lease him. That's what I would do!

Only 13? My 8 year olds are doing nothing right now and they couldn't be happier. They sure don't complain. :p
I think a lot of horses enjoy just being a horse for a while but leasing him out so that he could get some riding would probably be nice.

I think they have a 1/2 lease were the person only can come out a couple days a week if u wanted to do that.

Ya i think he is enjoying himself i went to see him today and he came up to me and it seemed like he was saying he is enjoying just hanging out.
The weather is so wet and crazy day to day that i think i will just let him be a horse and see if once spring comes whether i get more time to work with him or if i should lease him out.
Im just glad he is the type of horse that doesnt need to be worked everyday. I probably work him once a week at the most but thats usually good enough for him.

If I were you, l would lease Creek becuase if you lease him....
*You will get montly payments :D (lol)
*You can see where he lives and check up on him.
*He is still legally yours, so you make the final desicions on where he goes, and what he does. ;)

Honestly, Creek seems happy and if you aren't looking to be a grand prix rider with him, I wouldn't worry. If he's happy and you're happy than why worry?

You love him, don't sell him. But in my opinion, put him on a half lease, that way you can closely follow what is going on with him, and you can still ride him.

I'd say don't do something you're going to regret [eg. selling creek], because once you've finished college you may wish that you'd never sold him and that would be a bit harsh on yourself.
If you considered loaning him, maybe someone you know might want to look after him for you, so you know he'll be in safe hands.

That's really neat that he is that good!
They do enjoy it but I agree that they do also enjoy being messed with at least from time to time. Good idea! I don't get to do even once a week right now since I'm so far from home.
I can get on my TB after 2 to 3 months off and he's like new every time. Some horses can do it and others just can't. My mare is a prime example of a stubborn mule who conveniantly forgets everything until she gets a few day long tune up.

i think you should lease him out. if you love creek as much as you say you'll probably want him once your out of college. and he could teach some girl so much, who knows what the future holds though! :P
go with your gut

So i have decided to wait for a while. I just hate to think of anyone riding Creek except me so im not going to lease him out until i go away to school which is not until the year after next.
And i dont want any of his training to go to waste. I have worked so hard with him that who ever leases him might decide to start training him a different way then what he and i are used to.
Thanks for all your help guys!

i would lease him out, or if he's at a barn, let others ride (although just the advanced ones)
if u do lease, i would make sure the person can actually handle your horse...like watch the person ride.
he does need to be ridden though.(i hate my horse not being ridden for a couple of weeks)

You just made me think about it again. Maybe it would be a good idea to lease him out. My barn is for boarding only so there isnt anyone there but ppl who already own.
Im going to think about it for a couple days and see.

Leasing can be both good or bad. For me, if I had financial difficulty than I would do a partial lease to an experienced rider that both my trainer and myself have approved. However, I am usually very protective of my animals and wouldn't be satisfied with anyone other than a trainer/close friend riding my horse because no one else but me would seem right. I know it's crazy, but when I have a pet or other animal that I love, no one comes close to how I do things...

Can't blame you. I've known people who boarded with me that I wouldn't allow to touch either of my horses because they simply get too much into the horse's mouth. It seems to be a trend amongst some of the barrel racing population in my area. Yuck.
