View Full Version : Dutch and I barrel racing

Well I just started practicing barrels w/ dutch for about 2 1/2 days and on the third day I was just courious to see how fast he was wanting to go. (my form isnt the greatest, sumthing I working on, old habbits die hard) He really did amazing =)

( and I want to wait till the sand arena is rebulit, or till I go somewhere w/ one to focus on sharper turns)

For just starting looks like he was really comfortable doing the pattern.

BTW, he's the perfect paint... not so much white, lol!

Mandy you guys look great, and I agree with FE --- Dutch did look really comfortable.

He looks great. One thing I would keep my eye on is allowing him to always book it home. That's when they become sour. Allow him to do the entire pattern and then halfway home start to ease him up to a trot. Only when you're about ready to do your run and it's your last practice should you really allow him to become speed racer. When gaming, the most important thing is the turns. The horse already knows how to run fast. Just thought I should mention it. My arab/walker loves to run so I started barrel racing him and he'd start flipping his head when I asked him to stop. One day he cracked me in the face. That's when I learned to change my training strategy, lol. :p

I normaly do let him trot home, but this time I was just courious, he did go as fast as I thought he would lol.

Yea I dont like it when paints have a ton of white, I like a lot of color =)
