ah biting mini! i hear they tend to bite, probably just because they need a method of defense, what with being so small.

with my horse, i can usually tell when he's about to bite me (he doesn't snap) and i say "noooooooooo" kind of low and slowly, and maybe push his nose away. i have found that if i bop him on the mouth, more often than not he will try and bite again, harder. it kind of turns into a game.

or, if he is being really serious about biting, i'll play his little games with a crop on the shoulder. he generally gets the idea.

for a mini, pushing him away should probably work better? i'm not sure. i've never worked with minis.

hoped i helped a little!

I have a young horse who likes to nip!

When I'm grooming him I put his bidle on (with bit) under his headcollar. This gives him something to chew on while I brush him.
If he does try I NEVER hit him or put my hand up to his face - this will only make him head shy!
Hit on sholder with a plat hand and say no in deep voice.
When he goes to bite I hold up my metal curry comb as a shield and this causes discomfort to his nose and he was the one who put his nose onto it - dont hit his nose with it let him touch it. He will soon learn biting causes more discomfort to him than you!

My pony has been gelded a year ago (he was 2 when he was gelded) he stills shows coltish behaviour, just be firm, and they are babies still and it's only a phase if you deal with it correctly! As soon as his teeth are through he will stop

When my horse was a yearling he would bite sometimes. So I started carring a tooth pick around and if he went to bite me i would pock him lightly just enough to get his attention. He quite real fast..

When my mare went blind, she would try to test things with her mouth if she couldn't tell by smell. One thing she would test was people, which wasn't such a good idea. If she tried to do this, i just took her halter, moved her head away from the part of me she was nipping, and tell her no.

She isn't young by any stretch of imagination, but shge did stop biting. Good luck! :p

WELL... this worked with a friend of mines baby horse... i do know that they bite as a sign of being submisive... but ne way, my friend would squeeze his lips together hard wen ever he would even start too, he eventually gave up, also dont hand feed him trreats, try to either put them on the ground or in the bucket so he doesnt bite because he wants treats from you hand!

What I do is that when the horse is going to bite, put your elbow up.
They will think that THEY ran into YOU and the horse should should stop.
