Hey,
I have a 45 y.o. mare that I ride english and western. In her younger years she was mainly a jumper, but she did western pleasure as well. She is blind, so for a few years she wasn't ridden while she was trying to adjust. Now that we are back riding, she won't neck rein. I don't know if it is because she is in a dee ring snaffle (didn't think it would matter, but I could ride her in a low port if I had too) or if because she is rusty on her western skills.

I just prefer neck reining and riding western, but its ok to stay english. Any suggestions on getting her back to neck reining?

Thanks!

Lauren

hello there. If no one has answered your question i would be glad to. For one this horse is 45 years old! You shouldnt be riding such a old horse, let her retire her last few years or even months. Im not trying to be mean jsut saying for her sake. Another thing the neck reining problem may be caused by her blindness, she is not able to see and there for dont want to turn to quick or move her head over, because shes affraid of hitting somthing. If you truly want to ride her still i would start back on ground work and trust issues there. Because the horse is blind she needs to know that you will be there for her when she needs you.

hope this helps,
Cassie
