Do any of you show in a pelham in the hunters? And if so, do you also use a standing martingale in your over fences classes? I can't find anything specifically prohibiting it, but it seems so many leather straps (two sets of reins plus the martingale) may be distracting to a judge... I don't really know. The mare in question really needs both though.

with the martingale part of da question... i think it all to do with the type of show... sumthing to do with it being unafiliated and afiliated (sorry if my spellin is wrong lol)

Hi! I took a clinic and the instructor told me to try a pellham on my pony and see how we like it. It really works for Eq. but do you need it for Hunters too? Does your horse need a martingale? If so, use one and I dont think the Judge will have a problem. After all, they are just looking for the way your horse moves in Hunters.

I use a pellham in Equitation FLat adn Fences and I use a Dr. Bristole snaffle for hunter Flat. Over fences, if you are in hunters youcould use a pellham i say without a martingale so the horse can do her thing, u know? here's a pix... if i know how!
