What kind of work do you do with your hunter/jumper? Whats your normal weekly plan? How many hacking/jumping/schooling days and what mostly do you work on?

Bud and I do 2 jumping lessons and 2 flat (dressage) lessons a week. That gives us one day off and one day for whatever needs to be worked on or a trail ride :D .

right now i am mostly working on really getting him using his hind end and lead changes. He had all winter off so its just getting him back into the sway of things.

I put all of my horses on the same schedule here basically, although each horse obviously gets a different ride within the same parameters, some get worked a little harder than others, etc. :
Sunday - OFF
Monday - 1+ hour hack, up in the hills for conditioning. Mostly trotwork to build hind end up...nice relaxing scenic ride that gets my horses loose but works them hard.
Tuesday - Jump ride, usually 30 minutes flat/warmup, and 30-45 minutes over fences (with breaks in between courses).
Wednesday - Flat ride in the arena, probably about 45 minutes or so
Thursday - Another jump ride, approx 20-30 mins of warmup, and 30-45 minutes of jumpwork
Friday- Flatting up in the hills again, probably about an hour and a half
Saturday - Alternates, usually some flat rides and if there's a lesson we'll do some jumping most likely...sometimes we just round pen them for a little, sometimes they get worked harder depending on what they have done already that week .

my horse gets ridden about every second day...the days she doesn't get ridden i ride twist. they both have a lot of turnout, so they aren't being deprived by being ridden every second day. :p

Jumped 2x a week, hacked at least twice a week.

One hack is usually about an hour of poles, trying to get lead changes, blancing, trying to teach how to shorten/lengthen, doing the banks/grobs and working on the grass and up/down hills.
Then the other is just a 1/2 hour hack in draw reins and working on stuff like that.

Usually goes in the Nelson Pessoa once a week.

During the summer I ride him 5-6 days a week (if it's very warm I tend to give him an extra day off). He jumps 1-2 lessons a week and usually in one of my rides I'll do small grids or something we worked on in our lessons after I do flatwork. In my rides on my own though, I mostly do a lot of dressage and lateral work.. lots of bending, circling, spiralling... leg yielding, half passes, shoulder in/out, turn on the forehand/haunches, counter canter, extensions/collections, etc. Sometimes I'll throw in some tempi changes or something for fun if I'm not going to jump.. if I do jump then I do all of that first, catch a few fences, then end on some easy trot work and circling.

Well with me, Mickey gets jumped 2x a week and then hacked once a week. Unfortunately he's 1/2 leased out so he gets jumped (low jumps though... and barely courses) 3x a week with his leasor

So in total, he gets jumped 5x a week (2x a week high jumps, 3x a week low jumps... still I'd rather him only get jumped 2x a week) he also gets hacked by me once a week. The hack is just usually working on getting him supple and bending, and working on those darn lead changes.

With Keifer I:
Lesson on monday: 1/2 hour
Lesson on tuesday: hour (group so there's standing around alot)
He lessons on Wednesday w/ my mom
My trainer rides him thursday (mostly flat)
Friday: Off
Saturday and sunday 30 or 45 minutes flat

After horse shows (usually 1 or 2 a month) he has off for a week. It prevents him from getting tired of showing at a young age (just turned 7)

Well, I ride 3-4 days a week. We do a flat first. In that flat we work on making our horse work and be light on its front end that way they are light and not dragging you throughout your course that you do esp. if your jumping 3'6" or 3'9"(i learned that the hard way) and we work on bridling and bending and everything every flat. Then, we go onto jumping!(if the horses are really tired or havent jumped in a long time we dont jump them or we just jump them a little) Jumping we Canter an oxer first, then we start going higher and to courses that are higher! So practically we do flat and jumping 3-4 days a week! I ride at Camino Real Farms in Temecula, CA, and if you want to ask any more questions just ask anyone or me or nat n' matt(natalie) and we can try to help you, b/c we don't know everything yet!

When I had Archie, I'd ride him usually about five times a week (our barn is really far away, so my parents don't like to drive down too often). He would get turned out for 3 hours or so everyday. I had a lesson once or twice a week. The other times I rode him I just hacked. We worked on a lot of lower-level dressage movements to keep him interstead (flying changes, circles, leg-yielding, backing, turn-on-the-forehands, collecting, extending, etc.). I would hack him for about 45 minutes, and sometimes we'd walk around the barns to cool him off.

When I hack horses for my trainer, I usually only ride them for a 1/2 hour or so, unless my trainer wants me to jump them as well. I don't do as much dressage stuff on them either.

I have a similar situation. My parents hate driving me out to the barn because its so far out of their way.

I'm currently doing a half lease. I have two lessons a week (jumping) and hack once. But I'm getting my own horse by the end of the summer. I'll continue having two lessons a week and then she'll be riden by my coach once a week and then hacked a couple.
