She Is Really Good and I would love to start the new season In january With a Win at the Track! So should I? My dad's feind Says it's Ok to start Again. But Should I?

Personally, I wouldn't, but that's just me.

It's completely up to you, how old is your horse? Also, be cautious of injury and such.

How old is she? Why was she taken out of racing in the first place? You have to consider both of those things because whatever the reason was, could have been 100% WHY you should NOT put her back in there.

I wouldn't ever consider putting my OTTBs back into racing. NO WAY. I don't much appreciate the racing industry as it is.

If you do decide to put her back in, make sure you have a well-know, trusted trainer to work with her. And don't push her too hard at all.

I agree with kelidahorsegirl, don't push your mare too hard, ecspecially if she is an OTTB. Consider the horse's physical soundess and mentality level. If Foxy Lady is calm now, would she get high-strung if put back into racing? Would she remain sound? Plus, like kelida and Manda said, how old's your horse? An older horses' body cannott put up with a load of work like racing. But, beth, do whatever you feel in your heart is right! :D I bet Foxy Lady is a good horse. :D

depending on your horses history if she wa to start racing again would sh stay sane? would you still b able to carry on working her as usual consider all factors whther he would be comfortable to start racing again to be fit enough so she dosent gain injury.

Before you do anything i would check out why she stopped racing in the first place. i have an ex racehorse and i want to start racing her again so i got her vet checked and she came back completely sound so i took her racing and she completely freaked! it was a physicological problem as she had a nasty accident when she was a baby and going on a race track just brings back awful memories for her and she just cant make it even to the start line!!! So even if she doesn't have a injury just be careful because behind closed doors racing can be quite brutal to horses when their a baby!!! But its worth a try because every horse is different and she might be fantastic!!!!

i have a question. i know this is a wierd one but did she ever race at the santa anita racing track? or at a race track in southern california? i was just wondering because quite awhile ago when i went to a race track for my dads birthday , the first horse i ever got to bet on was a horse named foxy. thats pretty much all i remember but she ended up winning and i got like 5 bucks!

its just me but i wouldnt race her, if shes a caulm horse then why change her into some high strung horse. and depends on how long ago she was taken off the tracks she may be way out of shape and could get hurt.

mhoney05, i think beth_agnew is from england .. so her horse probably wouldn't have been in santa anita =) but maybe, who knows.

anyways, i personally do not think returning a horse to racing is a good idea. first off, most thoroughbred racehorses [at least in the U.S] are very young and highly conditioned and trained to run. returning an old horse that was retired does not seem smart because if it was retired in the first place, then something must be wrong or the horse just wasn't a competitive runner, as well as the fact that it would be very hard to recondition an old horse to successfully compete against young horses.

you really have to consider why the horse was retired. racing is such an intense sport and it takes such a drastic toll on the horse's body. returning an ex-racer to competition would be like taking an ex-olympic swimmer who has gained 40 lbs and 15 years and gotten out of shape and expecting him to compete successfully against young 19 or 20 year olds.

anyways, that's just my opinion.

Okay...

Let me get this straight - I just want to make sure I got everything.

So you have this mare, and you want to rerace her. You got her from America, but you live in England (kinda go confused there) and her hoof got stuck in a train track as a train was coming...?

First off my questions:
1. Where was she raced?
2. What's her racing history?
3. Why was she sold?
4. Who trained her?
5. Who bred her?
6. What's her lineage?
7/ How much did she win?
8. Any foals?
9. Has she ever had any soundness issues?
10. Any health issues?
11. Vet check?
12. How is she in the
+ starting gate
+ track
+ grooming
+saddling
+walking ring
+against other horses
13. Why do you want to race her?
14. Who would jockey her?
15. How would you pay for entry fees?
16. Boarding fees?
17. Who'd excerisize her in the morning?
18. How fit is she?
19. Who would train her, or if you;re doing it help you (timing etc)
20. Legs, grooming, cool out, feed?
21. How can you afford feed and all that jazz?
22. Transportation

Lol. See if you can answer those.

A very good racer is so much money...

I looked up the winner and third placer of the 2005 Grand National and Midnight Star wasn't even in it when I saw some horses on your page :[.

Erm, your horse did not win the Grand National or the King George's cup. Neither was she Horse of the Year. Ironically, HappyHorse13 has made a post about the actual 2003 Grand National Winner, Monty's Pass.

And if she did, you would know a heck of a lot more about racing, and you would most definitely be using a professional trainer.
