Long story short...A week ago I was rehabing a horse at my barn when he decided to buck REALLY BIG, I landed the buck but then he turned and I started to fall off but my foot got stuck in my stirrup. It was seriously the scariest thing to ever happen to me! So I went to the local tack store and got "Kwik out" stirrups and I LOVE THEM. They look like normal stirrups but the sides move if your foot gets stuck. I recommend that everyone gets them!

Hey,
Iv always ridden in safety stirrups, ever since I got dragged by my friends horse, I ended up like round his belly, and he knocked me out with his back foot.
Theres loads of different types of safety stirrups 2, the ones I use have a rubber band type thing on one side that just hooks around the top of the stirrups that comes off.

I like the kwik outs better than the rubber band ones because they look like normal stirrups, which is nice for the show ring. Esp the equitation or hunters.

Those are called peacock stirrups, I school in them as well.

i've always used the peacock stirrups, just because i never show at the upper levels so the look doesn't make a huge difference. luckily, i've never been close to being dragged, but the safety is nice to have!

I have the kwik-outs. They are awesome! I even tested them out to see of the side would pop off. I had a friend hold the other side and I bumped my foot against it....works like a charm.

On my jumpin saddle, I got a set of Peacock Fillis Saftey stirrups. wouldnt ride w/o them! Also been looking into the breakaways for my west. saddle I barrel race in. Grannit my feet aint in the stirrups most the time when Im runnin tho. I either take them out or the fall out. But I agree, saftey first!

Ive seen pro's use the peacock fillis', so why does it matter what they look like at your local shows???

If I ever get a horse, I will probably use safety stirrups, too.

I dont know what i would use really but personally i prefer normal stirrups... although on my friends horse i rode in plastic type stirrups... different but felt the same all at the same time (i know it hasnt got owt to do with safety stirrups!)
