What kind of boots do you have for xcountry? My biggest pet peeve is when people use open fronts for cross country day! I myself have Hampa's, yes they're old school but they work well!

I personally think open front eskadrons r fine for x country. But if you dont like open fronts 4 xc Eskadron does make a closed front xc boots that r really nice. Woof boots are also good. my mom slways uses porter boots w/ saratogas, she says that they are the best.

I use Shedrow.. or something like that.
I like them, they're not openfront. I personally, don't like using the open fronts for xc, for stadium sure.

I use Eskadrons for competing at lower levels/schooling in water or polo wraps for schooling if I don't plan on using the water complex.

It protects/somewhat supports the horses tendons and prevents brushing injurys.

i know what sport boots do , i use them for any training i do , and especially when im competeing or putting my horse in an envirnment hes not sure of , but i use th pro choice boots , so i guess my question was , why the open front ? other then breathability , i can't see a purpose , especially for jumping ?

Because then they can still feel the poles when jumping...and they basically are jumping boots.

Personally when going over large, cross country jumps that don't collapse I think its much safer to use closed fronts. For schooling fences, hacking, trail rides etc I think open fronts are great.

Yes it is better, and I would prefer to use closed front boots. But I can't affoard those and the vet bills right now. Instead of my mare getting cross-country boots, she got her life saved :o

I never let my horse even get a glance at a crosscountry course without being booted up. Its also one of the things I insist on with clients' horses; no closed front boot, no Kate to ride your horse. With my own horse, I use Shedrow closed front boots, but it doesn't really matter what kind you get. I also use bell boots because it makes my horse more aware of his feet. On the back I use either ankle boots or long Woof boots.
In jumpers, you want your horse to feel the sthing of the poles if he knocks 'em, it makes them more aware the next time; but in eventing, I can promise you, those fences aren't gonna come down. They have no give to them, and aren't going to move if your horse nicks them.
Closed-front boots, much like polos on a young horse, are an extra padding against any strikes to the leg,and offer a considerably increased amount of support. Pulled tendons, splints, and even fractures can occure if your horse thwacks the fence hard enough. Personally, I poultice and wrap my horse's front legs even after the event, even if he didn't hit anything. You never know.

Can someone explain to me the point of open fronts on cross country???
I'm not an eventer, but I can try.
Since the jumps in cross-country are primarily solid, they are also very hard. If your horse rubs or knocks them, it's going to HURT. So, you generally want the all-around protection and support of a completely closed boot for cross-country, and leave the open-front boots for the show jumping, where the poles come down if you hit them.

I use neoprene splint boots and bell boots for xc. I don't have any other boots for my girl Brie.

i think its not safe because the whole point of cross country boots is so if they rub, they are protected. w/ open fronts, you are only protecting the tendons.
