Please help me!!! I need a new bridle and saddle for my horse, as I just bought stuff for hacking to see me through the wonderful British winter (I've only had him since October 06) Now the argument on our yard is that brown tack is preferable these days. My horse is bright chesnut and I just dont think brown will look right?? What does everyone think

If it's not for show, justhacking around, get what you want. I always prefer black on chestnut horses! Dark horses = light tack, light horses (chestnut included) = dark tack, thats my opinion anyway!

I'm not sure about Britain (though it seems more people there prefer black) but in America, unless you're riding dressage, brown is almost ALWAYS used. It's your preference though, I wouldn't say it goes in and out of style. :]

I would say...
B L A C K!
It looks nicer and will contrast to your horse's color.
Brown is too much like chestnut.

Urm.. I wouldn't ever say that tack should be seen as a "fashion". If these so called sixteen-year olds are saying "black is sooo last season" they must just ride because, you know, that's what ALL the cool kids are doing these days, right? Because it's so easy, you just hop on the horse and sit there and the horse comes underneath himself and collects and skips right on over that 5' fence. Wait, did any of those girls even catch what I said? I doubt it. Color of tack is YOUR personal preference. Hell, if you prefer to ride in a friggen PINK bridle, be my guest.

LOL I hear ya!!! He's getting black, I've decided. He looks better innit anyway. Actually that comment you said is so funny cause yesterday one of the 15 year olds was going mad cause her horse she has galloped into the ground for the whole of the frosty winter has finally gone lame, she rugged him up stuck him in the field and galloped off into the woods on her spare mare!!!! Oh it must be nice....

Yeah that's pretty much the point of my whole "rant". It depends on how the color looks on your horse. Like personally I wouldn't stick a black bridle on my mare [blood bay] because I think it would look too odd and I like her in havana ^_^

Oh boy ... I hate people like that. They should be banished from stables.

Fifteen year olds are ignorant they don't know anything.

Me, I'm 13. I know about: choclate, horses, and guys :p
Oh joy, my three favorite things in the world!

You're 13, you don't actually know what you want, even though it may seem that you do. This is the point in your life when boys come along and you want to be cool and be with them and your friends and you gradually find yourself spending less and less time with the horses and more time with other things. Trust me, life gets confusing  but stick with the ponies and stay away from the boys. They cause way too much harm when you're in your early teens. Once you grow up a bit more and get your life more in check you'll understand where you belong and THEN you can go have fun ^_^

Yup exactly =) The happiest times have been at the barn and the lowest times have been when I was stupid enough to let guys walk all over me. Now I don't associate with boys at all except in school, just talking and if they like me, well too bad for them, I'll do nothing but be mean because I know my horses are important and I've learned the hard way how much your life can go downhill from something just as little as having a boyfriend. :p

Ahhhh, but if you get a good one they can be utilised for carrying water buckets...heavy rugs... 3 saddles at a time etc!!! They have their uses. Get the HORSE/ BOY balance and you are on to a winner :D

I KNOW!!! If I hadnt been present when she was born I would nt think she was mine!!! Last year I was at a show when one of the kids from the yards pony's started having a fit. Not wanting her to loose face in front of her rivals, I hopped on her her pony in the practice ring to calm it down and get it jumping. My little girl was at the side of the ring and had a panic attack and could hardly breathe because I was on the horse?? I cant even take her to the farm, and the worst thing is there are NO reasons for her being like that!!!

That's very strange! My mom has panic attacks when I get on trouble horses too haha. She's gotten a little better considering she can sit there and watch Fiona rear while I'm on her and she won't even gasp or anything haha. But she's still not to the point of ever stepping foot in the stirrup anytime soon.

Maybe the horses will grow on her! That'd be a tragedy if they don't, I think that's EVERY horsewoman's nightmare!

I think you should go with a dark one because the color of the horse if its light it will show better but thats my opinon so thats what I would do=D
