Why were they not good helmets? Does it affect your score? I think it looks fine :]

What magazine was that?? It's perfectly fine for lower levels. Until you get to training level eventing and first level dressage it's perfectly alright to use any helmet you want. Even a jumper saddle in the dressage ring from intro-novice / training dressage is alright.

ps; your horse is extreeemly cute :)

I agree with Manda and Reneigh, it looks fine! You and your horse look like a fine team!

yeahhh don't worry bout it. if they mark you down for a flippen helmet, COMPLAIN! it's not a fashion show.

In my opinion, I honestly dont see a thing wrong with wearing helmets in ANY discipline of riding. Ive done everything from western pl., to english pl., to halter/showmanship (west. halter/showmanship i wear a hat tho of course,) to h/j, to barrel racing and other contesting events (i.e.poles, stakes, etc.) and Ive worn a helmet in all of them. Ive placed everwhere from frist to last and not one judge/person has said nothin to me. on the contrary, I think its absolutley rediculous some of these parents complaining about their 8-12 (just for ex.) kids that do western pl. wearing helments b.c it "looks tacky" and it aint "traditional"....ok, well your kids head getting bashed in IS??? never understood it. Grannit, I dont know much about dressage, but am working on getting into (i think its absolutley amazing, and one aspect of the riding world I aint done yet,) and I WILL wear a helmet! Better to be safe than sorry. Besides, you can get "cool" looking helmets....thats all!

Yeah I think it's rediculous when the parents of young riders complain, especially in western. Sure it may look tacky but that's only because not too many people in the western world wear helmets. If more people did it would look normal like in the english world. And actually in the english world people see helmets as a part of the "fashion".

i would definately have to agree with you there- i dont think anybody should be punished (pointwise) for being safe! i was raised to always wear a helmet (ive gone a little lax when riding my old guy, i hate to admit) especially children- every barn ive been at its MANDATORY for minors to wear one!

no judge can punish you for it because its you being concerned about your safty
thats one downfall of being in the arab industry is that u can wear a helmet in any class but if you do everyone will think you have a crazy unsafe horse and that yuo NEED to wear a helmet not that you just want to be safe and probably dont need it

Seriously, nobody can. If they do, they're most likely stuckup and suck at riding anyway!
The only time I ride without a helmet is when I'm bareback on PJ, a 20 year old 14.3hh Connemara gelding who I've been riding since December 2005, so there's a great deal of trust between us. But when I'm helmet-less I only walk him around in his halter and leadrope and let him graze. Other than that, ESPECIALLY on my mare, Fiona, I wear a helmet.
