i barrel race and lately his saddle has been slipping due to the saddle blanket. when he works the saddle gradually slides back untill the breast collar is pulling back on him. this REALLY effects his performance and it is a pain in the butt to dismount and retack. what are some good saddle blankets to look into? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

I suggest Classic Equine brand saddle blankets. They are my fave and we never have a problem with them!! :)

maybe he's losing weight and the girth isn't fitting well anymore?

It may not be your blanket, it might be your saddle. I am huge on saddle fitting, a science long overdue. Everyone thinks their saddle fits, but unless you do the point inspection, you might miss the areas it doesn't fit, and it is best to take it to a professional saddle fitter, or at least get their opinion.
If saddle fit is not the issue, then I would personally suggest one of those neoprene saddle blankets. I had a problem with a girth that would rub our paint gelding raw, and I went to a neoprene girth and it solved the problem. Tacky Too is a good brand as well.
But I would check the saddle itself, I have learned that the horse may have narrow withers and a broader back and hips, which kind of forces the saddle forward. A good, professional saddlefitter could suggest how to handle the problem. Alas, I am not a saddle fitter, just a convert and admirerer of it as I have seen some miraculous results from it, I never realized how important it was.
Have you tried perhaps a tail crupper to hold it in place? I had to use one trail riding, as I used to have a pony with the narrow wither problem I mentioned before. Now I know I could have had her fitted by a professional, but back then I just used a tail crupper, and I padded it with a peice of foam cushion sliced thin and glued on with weatherstripping adhesive.
Just some suggestions, good luck and brightest blessings on you!

thanks to everyone! well, the saddle slipping is just a recent problem and ive had the same saddle for about 3 years. i use a professionals choice neoprene girth that i like and professional choice blankets that have kind of worn out and i think thats why its slipping.

you could use a non-slick pad. they are about $55-80.00 at a tack store. it doesn't slip at all. does that help?? :)

for the waffle pad and the no slip pad, do these have specific brand names that sell them? like are they weavers or justins or something?

Hey they have nonslip or barrel pads....barrel pads usually are good for the bouncing no his back....but i say that neoprene or nonslip blankets are the best that's what i use. maybe even look at the underside of the saddle maybe the padding has worn out and there needs to be a really big pad or just a couple small ones. but if you use 2 i suggest putting a nonslip underneath so they don't slide....or maybe your horse's measurements have changed....there are a lot of variable i used to have the same problem

As said before you might want to get your saddle checked. Or you can use the non-slick saddlepads and a breast-collar.
