Hey, I started my aromatherapy clinics this weekend. They are a blast. The clinicians came in from Colorado and they are nice and actually really funny. We first began using the oils on ourselves and it was amazing how they activate so quickly. I had been taking aleve for my headache with no relief, but she used a little Lavender which she placed on one of my acupoints and worked it in then smelled it and within a few minutes my headache was relieved. So today we got to work with the horses and just simple aromatherapy with them and it was amazing how different their reactions were. My friends horse was interested in every oil she pulled out but 2, however, my horse only liked 1 oil the first time I presented them to her. This afternoon she was more open to it and chose a few more oils she liked but she was really attracted to the Peppermint. We also got to practice some acupoints and opening and closing the horse for work. It was fascinating to see how the horse calmed down when you opened them and when you closed them how they were still calm but more alert. We also got some releases (licking, flehmen, chewing, etc.) from our horses which was a good response. I am curious to see how indepth we get tomorrow and how our horses will respond then. I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Sorry I just had to share. :D

Ooh that is really cool! It's like the stuff from the Heartland series. I'd love to work with horses like that :) have lots of fun!

This weekend was a blast. The reactions we got from our horses was amazing. My favorite technique was the "raindrop" technique. The name pretty much describes how it is performed. I am not going to go into great detail about it right now...but if anyone is interested I will be glad to share at a later time. With this technique we actually ended up cracking our horses back as the oils helped realign his spine. It was rather fascinating and I can't wait to go home and practice on Scotch for my clinicals. Well foal watch tonight so I am outta here. ttyl

That is fascinating. I am an herbalist, and I know what an amazing effect herbs can have, and most of the oils are highly concentrated forms of the herbs, rendering them far more potent than the teas I usually deal with. It is well known that the sense of smell is the oldest of senses, are found in the simplelist life forms, and is connected to memory.
I am VERY interested in ANY of it! Please, feel free to share away!! ;)
Brightest Blessings!

I would love to share but I wouldn't know where to begin so I guess if you have any questions just let me know.

I must say that the thing that caught my attention was when we would "open" the horse for acupressure it was funny how they would go to the acupoints that needed activated. We would treat those points with the oil of their choice then "close" them and their whole attitude was different. Some of the horses really enjoyed it and some didn't.

As for me, I enjoy both the aromatherapy and acupressure. I have been using some acupoints on myself and I am amazed with the results. Two days ago I had a cold, but I applied some lemongrass to a couple of acupoints and today I am clear. Also I have scoli osis and usually the day after my shoeing class I am a little soar. Well I have been applying valor or lavender to some acupoints as well and I haven't been soar (at least not in my back).

While I do not know all that much about the acupressure yet, I am learning. I cannot wait until I actually take the acupressure clinic next year. First I will be taking massage next quarter and I am ecstatic. Alright well any questions just let me know.

I am also VERY intrested to hear more about aromatherpy.I have been away for horses for 12 years. My husband and I just rescued two horses froma neglectful home. They have only been here for a week.We were not really all set up for them, but its getting better every day.Neither of these horses have had people attention for almost two years.I'm outta the loop since its been sooo many years and would REALLY appreciate any help for them. One is nervous and doesnt listen very well, but every day (twice a day) we work with them on a lead line. The other is very stubborn and I need some tips on him as well.I used to show, train and ride for barns but that was when I was a teen.I have all the time in the world to work with them so I'm not in a hurry to ride, but I need to make sure they are safe around my children. No worries about the Gelding ....he was a theraputic horse for handicapped children when he was ten years younger. He is very good around my 7 year old.So, sorry this is sooo long but I needed to get it.LOL
thx, Heather
