Ok I have a funny story. I recently have started taking my horse to the rodeo so that I can get him trained for cutting. Well some kid walked up to me and asked if he could ride my horse with me. After I got approval from his mother I let him ride with me. Well little did I know that this kid was a junior bull rider. So while I was riding around in the arena before the event a bull broke through the gates somehow. Immediately I told the kid to hold on tight and I tried to pen the bull back up. This obviously not working I got my rope out and I was ready to rope him when the little kid grabs my hand and says "ma'am don't u hurt yourself, I can handle this like a man." He then jumped from my horse (who is 16 hands) onto the bull, grabs his taped off horns, and steers him back to the pen like a bike, in front of a full stadium. His mother than comes up to me and said "His daddy taught him to always take care of his women, even if it does mean getting hurt." This just proves that chivalry isn't completely dead yet. I thought that this was a really cute story and just couldn't help but share it. :p
Cowgirl up.

How adorable! Need more gentlemen like him, no doubt. There is some mighty good men in the world, just not enough of them.
My funny story is a bit off color, but here it is. Man years ago I was at an Arab show with my girlfriend. I wasn't showing, my mare had a pulled tendon and I was just a ringrat. But she was going round and round in English Pleasure class, which is more like a park seat class, and altho her stud was behaving beautifully for her, he was also sporting a rather eye-catching erection. I held up my fingers wide and hissed 'Five Legs!!' when she went by. By this time gigles were following Tzar's procession around the ring. She knit her brows and gave me a quizzical look. I waited until she had circled the ring again and pointed down towards his belly and hissed louder 'FIVE Legs!!' She looked blank a moment, then it dawned on her what I meant. She tapped Tzar's belly with her riding bat and when he had um, withdrew, I smiled and nodded when she went around. We laughed about that one alot later. She still raises arabs in South Carolina but Tzar has passed to the happy hunting ground.
I say, Cowgirl Up!
Thanx for the cute story. And welcome to Canter Culture!!

Got a story. Happened today as a matter of fact.
I was ridding Willie in the Arena working on his lope when he heard dear in the woods and spooked. He jumped staight out fron under me but I stayed on and we just walked arround for a bit then went into the pasture for a cool down. Well, the neighbor's dogs started barking and a pack of dear jumps outta the woods and runs into the pasture. This spooked Willie but he stayed under control (I decided this was a good time to dismount) until one dear comes charging up the hill straight for me n Willie. My horse was so scared by a DEAR that he spun and ran right in to the run on shed and would not move for a good ten minutes!!!
Talk about a big fat scaredy cat!!! :D

Funny!!!
One time (at band camp) I was over at my friend's house, where Dusty lives (see my profile). My friend and I were in the barn, hanging out with the horses, and being hyper idiots. We began to talk like, 'Mahaa, maaa!" and Dusty was so cute, he was cocking his head and perking his ears the whole time. He was like, "Wha? Are these two on something?" It was so cute, one of those "have-to-be-there" moments.

[COLOR=Lime]I've got a pretty interesting story. I game my horse and she is one of those horses that loves to game so she gets pretty hyper when she goes into the ring. Well we had already been in the arena once that day and the keyhole was up next. Well we did the usual went in the ring and waited for the judge to say he was ready. We went, well my horse decided that she didn't feel like turning around that day so she jumped the keyhole. I thought she just went through it and then I turned around and seen that the keyhole was still there. Everyone watching was yelling to jump back in... hahahaha i still get made fun of for this one.

LOL those are some funny stories! I've got a funny story. Probably not as funny as some but still pretty funny. My horse Max is an arabian pinto cross he's 4 yrs. old and LOVES people. When you call Max "SuperMax" He gets SO excited. Especially on the lunge line. And so I was telling Max he was a good boy and I said "Good boy SuperMax!" And he started letting out his energy by hopping around and bucking. Well he pulled really hard on the lunge line and he ran straight into a tree! He stood there for a second and looked at me then trotted off like "I still got it." xDD

Hows this for typical british weather, skop n hide will know what i mean. I had been preparing for a local show for about a week and i was riding clyde, this is before he died. He's not the cleanest of ccreatures so four baths did the trick lol. I chalked him up, whitened his tale and he was pritine! So proud. I put in to take part in the tack and turn out class and theye was about 30 people in the class! It was packed. Anyway, i stroll up to the outdoor school where it was being held and as soon as we get in the school he does a poop n gets it on his pritine white legs and tail, then just to put the icing on the cake, it started raining, torrentially! Every horse in the school was going crazy right now and me and clyde got soaked to the skin. My make up ran. my shirt and jacket were sticking to me and clyde looked all suddy!
I spent so long just for it to rain!! As the class ended, i got fourth place, they said we should have a few strides of canter then leave the school. Well thirty horses in a school, all wound up, soaking wet and one small gateway lol. Clyde was competitive anyway so nothing overtook him! I couldn't stop him, he had his head between his legs and he just tanked round the school and right to the gate! The judge thought it was hilarious! I got the flu after that today
p.s i love the story about the bull! Chivelry is no way dead lol!

I havent been to a proper show in years... as i dont have my own horse but I always end up helping out!
I helped with doing lead rein gymkhana one year... it was sooo nice in the mornin... I went down to the riding school i use to help out at to help groom the horses because some of the other helpers got to compete at the show!
Well anyways... got to the show and the weather was expected to be bad so there was not many there... I had only gone down in my jeans with my muckers on as i was only expecting to watch when i was actually there! There was no other kids in the lead rein gymkhana so we competed with the only senior person (also a helper) doing gymkhana also... I'd got roped in to doing the leadin... pfffffft! lol
Just as we was about to begin... it tipped it down... but we still carried on...
I was doing my good old weaving in the rain on good lengthy grass (nice and slippy) nearly slid away from the horse but managed to avoid it...
By the third race i was soaked through... including my jeans... so i was runnin along with the lead rope in one hand and holding my jeans in the other... lol
We oveously won every race as we was the only lead rein in it! So the kid got a bunch of firsts and gave me one for running round in the rain :D
They are my magic jeans... as named by the helpers lol

Lol. Damm you british weather! Its just typical when i say to someone i feel like riding today, the weathers nice cos everytime i do it pours! I just keep my thoughts to myself lol. I got caught in a thunderstorm once n i was on the road riding back to the yard and there was a huge puddle, i tried to time it so when i went past it there were no cars but someone pulled out of the driveway as i was walking past it and soaked me and archie from head to toe. Silly me was wearing cream jods too so i ended up looking like a dalmation!
I also got mounted by a shetland in the field once. Apollo, or devil pony as i refer to him as likes to rear up behind people and try n get them on the ground. He didnt quite succeed. lol
Got thrown in a massive brambles bush too. Archie just stood looking over me as if to say ' i wonder who put u there!'
lol

I got a funny one...My friend and me do a lot of trail riding in our free time...Well one time we were going down this trail in the woods and there is a tree that lays across the path so you kinda have to jump it...lol. Well my friend is in front so she jumps it first..( Oh, by the way keep in mind we are in western saddles..lol) When she landed she was doubled over the saddle and I was like oh no she must be hurt and then I start to hear her laughing and I asked her what was wrong...She turned to me holding her chest and told me she had ripped her bra in half....We were a good 2 hours from my house... :D
Her bra had got caught on the horn. ;)

LOL thats great!!
Speaking of crummy weather, whenever we show on Sunday's, it pours down rain. Last season, every Sunday show, it was miserable out. Saturday's, of course, are splendid, but never Sunday's. Wonder how this season will turn out.
Alright, here's my funny story...
My younger sister was riding in her brand new western saddle and new western show outfit. We had a pretty important show the following day and had just gotten are things back from the cleaners. Well, Jess wanted to ride around in her new clothes. So we decided to ride down by the creek and let the horses drink and walk around. I was in the creek with Indy and he was enjoying himself. Of course Dillion, my sister's horse, is a "water-baby" and decided he would roll...in his new saddle and tack.
Imagine trying to explain that to our folks when we got home. Good times though. I'm so happy it's summertime now. Winter is such a bummer.

lol stories like that are so funny b/c horses r afraid of alot of things. lol i hate when i am riding in the morning and my horses hears a coyote pack in the back woods and decides that is a good time to take a run for the barn which is closed most of the time so he just runs around it til he finally figures out that it's closed and he's not getting in

So how old was this guy. O and you are so lucky I would love to do cutting but my horse is so stupid he would probably see the cow and since he was originally trained in roping he would probably try and have me rope it. :o

I love the first two stories the best. =) Hehe. But they're all cute
But isn't it ironic that horses are scaredy cats? Then again, they're not carnivores or even omnivores, so they have to be wary of being eaten, but most big animals (and sometimes tiny chihuahuas) possess no sense of fear. (I've only heard about the chihuahua thing...only one I met was so nervous she freaked when I petted her, but she eventually kissed my nose, and according to her owner, that's odd for her...she is a big scaredy cat in shrimp form)
But seriously. I don't get why they're so scared when they can probably kill something smaller simply by STEPPING on it without meaning to. They're big and powerful.
Though deer are scaredycats too, but that's why they live in the woods. So they don't have to freak out too much and all die of nervous breakdowns.

Music -- horse's are naturally wary/spooky/fraidy cats because they are prey. Mountain lions, other stallions, people. They are constantly aware because their best defense is to flee. So when danger comes, they run, simply because they are fast and it is the safest way. If they cannot run, they resort to rearing, kicking and the like.
WIld horses must be on a constant 'edge' so they can flee immediately, and basically regather. They'd rather avoid danger. Also tehy have many preadators, even a pack of coyotes can take down an older horse or foal, or even a healthy horse. Only alone, of course. Safety is with a herd, and horse's choose "flight" over "fight". Generally, anyways.
A flapping bag coudl be the rustle of a cougar's approach. Some horses are worse then others fo course. Ringo is generally pretty unflappable...but Razz was incerdibly nervous/spooky.
Also horse's could/might/will spook because of the atmosphere - an uneasy feeling, they may sense danger. Also it is heighted in the coming of a storm, because they can feel it, and know the need to seek shelter, and be even more wary. Also big winds because a predator can mask its movements.
Of course this is just me saying what I know...
I loved all your guy's funny stories =)
I have a few... It was more of 'you had to be there' but oh well. I enjoy telling the story.
Razz had a stone stuck in his foot (he had these special shoes that were near impossible to get things out of...ugh) and I could NOT get it out. It wasn't bothering him or anything, so I gave it a rest and tacked him up. Then I tried agian. I still couldn't get it. So this girl ..."offers" her help (I ..greatly disliked the girl). I accept because I was getting tired of bending over. I held her horse, and he was nipping at me a bit, so I pushed his nose away and said, "No." loudly. Well, she snaps at me not to yell or hit her horse whcih I simply ignore and return to rubbing the horse's neck.
Razz starts leaning on her. Alot. He normally didn't, reallly. She pushes him away. He leans again. She jumps away, and he almost falls but catches himself. She starts wrestling the stone again, he leans again. That pattern continued a few more times, and the she JERKED his mouth, yelled at him, and jabbed him HARD in the side with the hoof pick several times. I was about to march over there and take it away, but Razz had this LOOK in his eyes. The pattern of leaning and frustration repeated, with me giggling behind her horse's neck and her getting more frustrated. I walked over and just as she did she admitted defeat and said she couldn't get the stone out. She grabbed her horses reins jerked him away and mounted.
I got the stone out (she must have loosened it haha)--Razz didn't lean on me. I mounted up and as I rode, I watched the girl WRESTLE her horse. She jerked and pulled on his mouth and, though she wasn't allowed as he was still in retraining, she tried doing flying changes on him. He could do them with the trainer, but not with her. He was trying, and once or twice he got them, but mostly he ended up going really fast with his head in the air, fighting, and her yanking and getting really mad. Razz and I did flying changes too --more convient to follow her patter. -gives evil smile- Razz and I did them flawlessly, and he was soooo happy.
After I was done, she says: "Don't tell anyone I did that okay? I'd get in trouble."
Why I never told I don't know, considering how mean she was to me.
Another time Razz bit her, and he has never ever bitten anyone else. I wasn't there, but she had to ride him for me. Apparently. He hated her. And Razz never hated anyone... Haha....Man I miss that horse....
