I thought we could make a list of grooming tips and tricks such as:

-use babypowder to make white areas whiter
-use laundry soap to help get out stains on white areas
-For a nice clean and soft mane, use mayonnaise. Yep, that's right - mayo - just use as you would shampoo and then wash it out. Presto! A nice clean and extremely smooth mane!
-For a flaky horse - well, for flaky skin - try using a little liquid fabric softener with your shampoo - it helps to keep the skin soft and springtime fresh!
-For really bad sweat stains, dilute rubbing alcohol with water in a spray bottle and spray on the stain. Rub with your brush - stain gone!
-One of the worst things that can happen when you're out on the trail - burrs in the mane and tail! Yikes! For a quick removal, try spraying a cooking spray on the burred area - they slip out a lot easier!
-Try using hoof moisturizing cream on your horse's tail - Put it on, let sit a few minutes and rinse well. Helps to keep the tail soft and untangled. For a show, do this the night before - let sit overnight wrapped in a tail bag. Gives you that extra advantage over the competition when the judges see that pretty tail.
-More showing tricks - just before entering the ring, use a "grab-it" wipe to get the last minute dust off your horse.
-To help prevent bacteria - spray your grooming equipment with Lysol between each use. Use the regular Lysol - not the scented ones.
-Put a tablespoon of molasses in your horses feed very other day to promote a healthy, shiny coat.
-For cracked and dry hooves, a paintbrush and some Vaseline works great! And the Vaseline helps repel the rain too!

for shows:
put baby oil over horses visible skin(like their muzzle and nose) to make it shinier! i have only seen it with horses with black skin, so im not sure about pink skin...

Dont use baby oil on horses with pink skin... especially noses... as shows as usually in the summer and tend to be outside. Without baby oil the are already prone to their noses gettin sunburnt but with baby oil it will make the severity of any burns alot worse... thats why horses with pink skin (mainly muzzle/nose area) should have sun cream on when in the sun all day... usually factor 15 or higher :p

the grooming supply i swear by is EQyss Survivor Detangler. It comes in a black and red bottle and is worth its weight in gold :) This gets out the worst of tangles with ease and leaves the mane & tail glossy, repels dust, and stays for days! A few days later you can still run your fingers through the mane and feel no tangles. I LOVE this stuff and HIGHLY recomend it!!!

for horses with manes to thin to band, use afro-gel (really, thats what its called!!) to keep it on one side in the show pen.

I use EQ solutions on the body, if you put it on and then take it off after about 5-10 minutes it gets the dirt off their bodies pretty well. I also use a shampoo called...umm...not quite sure...but it works well in the main and tail and it gets a LOT of the dirt out of the main and tail. I'll let ya'll know when I remember the name of that shampoo.

i find if you have a grey/palomino/or any light-courlered horse if you use liquid foundation (but make sure its no TO runny) on bare skin and on the hoves soap and a warm flanel.
honestly it works a dream!!!!

this isnt so much for showing, but if you have a horse with really bad burrs in the mane or tail, WD-40 works great! they may smell like a car for a while, but its great in a pinch! also, if your horse wears boots (splint, ankle, bell) that rub, sprinkle baby powder inside. (i use it on all the racehorses! it also helps keep them from sweating so much under the boots and over heating tendons.)

keep baby wipes in ur groom box
great for:
-cleaning noses
-cleaning ears
-a quick rub down before a show to get dust off
-adds shine to the coat
-clean ur hands if they get dirty
and best of all is theya re alreayd wet so no more havuing a towel that u hjave to get wet and they can just be thrown a way when ur done so no laundry
and they are cheap
