Leather or Synthetic?

What do you prefer? Leather or Synthetic dressage saddles?

Synthetic is gross IMO, quite practical for some people but nothing beats leather.

What's your opinion?

Synthetic is gross AMEN !!!!!! , i ride western but i think i can still throw my 10 cents in lol , it is practical for those that can't afford leather or for the tree huggers , but no synthetic saddle belongs in the horse show ring , be it english or western. no matter what grade synthetic they , they still look it.
no real horsemen would use synthetic............

Comfort wise, I would likely pick a wintec over a high end leather saddle any day. They are very female-friendly: narrow twist, well proportioned seat, enough but not too much padding, and the like. But when I was buying last spring I went with a high end saddle knowing I'd want to show in it. My stubben is comfortable to me, but not like the wintecs I've ridden in. Most people agree they aren't appropriate for the show ring- and I hope it stays that way- but I think they are great for schooling.

I really want the Wintec Isabella. I may buy it for myself for my birthday. :cool: I would LOVE to have a schooling saddle I can take in the wash stall and powerwash when it's dirty. I'm so lazy. :p LOL.

The wintec and/or synthetic western saddle are ugly, though. They need more work. :rolleyes: I've been told the wintec western fit isn't as good, either.

your pretty rude. I really dont think all "real horsemen" are rich. Some people cant afford a brand new pessoa or passier.

Personally I would never ride in a synthetic saddle and I am fortunate enough to own a pessoa but, I dont cut down people that cant. Synthetics are a great addition to the equine world.

You dont need to be so rude and ignorant....so i would advise that next time you keep your prissy little kid attitude locked up in your itty bitty brain :mad:

Ooohh! I have a Wintec Close Contact, and it is the best saddle I have ever ridden in. I don't like leather, you have to oil it...*lazy me* :p

guess my 10cents was taken as 10 hits lol , as far as my atitude is concerned its anything but childish , now name calling , thats another story.

now im not cutting anyone down for useing synthetics.im fully aware of finacial problems that some horse people have. its just the simple fact that you can buy a used leather saddle / bridle for the same price as a synthetic. im not trying to fight or anger anyone , but the truth of the matter is , its my opinion , wether you choose to see it as such thats your choice , but no avid horsemen would want synthetic , its only benefit to even a factory made saddle is price , nothing compares to leather , the way it feels and smells , even how it works is different and better then synthetic.

i apologize if i offended anyone , thats not my intent , here to make friends just like everyone else..

It's fine if you dislike synthetic, you have a right to that opinion- but we should try to respect that others feel differently and and not call their saddles gross or ugly. You seem nice, but it IS very a very rude thing to say that a rider is less of a horseman just because they prefer a different saddle than you do.

like i said , im not trying to anger anyone , but in the world of true horsemen , those that strive to better the horse world , wether its through training . teaching or standing up , rarely use synthetics. im really not trying to offend anyone , so just look at it this , i rodeo , therefore synthetics wolnt hold up to the stress i put on my saddle , i do ranch work , i need a saddle / equipment that stand up to the tests of hard work. so maybe my opinion is biased , but thats all it is....

I definitely don't think the "good" western synthetic saddles I've seen are near the quality of the good synthetic english saddles- even the same brands.

i like leather. i hate synthetics...they don't feel the same as leather saddles. i worked my ass off to pay for my crosby, and i love it! it was sooooooooooo worth it! it's used, it's older, but man! i'd pick this saddle over a brand new synthetic any day! (JMO)

whatever, if people want synthetics, then they can have them. personally, i'd never buy one for myself. :)

Do you HONESTLY care what someone thinks of your saddle ON LINE? ... If you can't handle someone "insulting" your saddle or tack then you need a reality check. Not everyone is going to bend over and gush about your synthetic..or you for that matter. =)

I don't have a synthetic. I have a Stubben (which you'd know if you read this thread) but I DO care about basic civility and outright rudeness from fellow forum members.

I feel like I just need to point out the obvious. Most people do feel pride for their stuff, even if its not as nice as someone else's. There will always be someone richer than you so its never nice to be mean to the people below you. Also you started this thread to see how people felt about synthetics vs leather, so I would think of all people you would be the most open to different opinions to make sure things stay civil, and to make it a discussion not a bashing since not everybody is made of money. There is a difference between bashing and advising against something btw (like this bridle was really poor leather and not worth the high price tag vs Synthetics=gross). Just because I have an opinion, all of a suden I am a little immature 13 year old! It's all ready been sorted out now you take the time to make insults and pick fights. Same here. But i do ride Dressage now and then. Anyways leather makes you a better rider. It helps you grip more. i HATE synthetics sorry to anybody that likes them but i cant stand them. I had one for about a year and finally i sold the pecie a crap on ebay and got myself $900 for my savings account. now i have hermes and a Bevel.

how do u know if they feel different anyway? have u been riding without pants? with pants, you can't even tell the difference except if it is hard or soft, not like texture. i bet a lot of people who don't like synthetic have to buy them cuz they had to. if i HAD to buy one, i would. no!!!!!!! they can be the most important(not including the horse/pony)! if someone was gunna seriously ride, and couldn't afford a saddle, it wouldnt be pretty. if people would cut costs of saddles a lot more people could ride competitively! and if you dont agree, i DON'T care!!!
